Crime Patrol: New Delhi- Child Kidnapping by U.P. gang (Episode 72 on 31 Dec 2011)

The Inside Story-

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police were on Tuesday investigating the 'human trafficking' angle in the case of the kidnapping of 18-month old Ishaan from Maharani Bagh and also searching for a woman called 'Sonia'.

Sources said that there was a gang nicknamed 'Pakkad' in western Uttar Pradesh, whose modus operandi was to use maids in Delhi to abduct infants and have those maids hand over the kids to the kidnappers there. They in turn would sell the children or make ransom calls to the parents.

They added, "We had arrested Sonia in 2009 in a similar case in East Delhi where she picked up a child after working in a house for a few days. Thereafter a call was received from Etta (Uttar Pradesh) demanding ransom money. This could be the same gang or a similar one". In Ishaan's case, no ransom call has been received yet and we suspect that child could have been kidnapped for selling, said an officer.

Explaining the modus operandi of 'Pakkad', an officer said "They usually simply assign a female gang member the duty of taking up employment as a maid,

Police also believe that Seema (20), who fled with the child on Sunday evening, has not given her real name to employer Vikram Singh. "The Singhs also made a mistake by not insisting on her address or identity papers before employing her," gaining the employer's trust, and then disappearing with the child at a pre-decided and opportune moment". Sonia, according to the sources, was out on bail after her arrest in 2009 from New Ashok Nagar.

In Ishaan's case, this was the second or third time when Seema was trusted with taking the child out alone. The child was taken in a pram, which was also missing and police were yet to recover it. "We suspect that the child was kept in the pram which is a secure environment for him. Seema possibly met a gang member who was in some vehicle. Otherwise, if she had wheeled Ishaan in a pram or taken him in a public vehicle, there would have been eyewitnesses," said a police officer.

Later in the day, police claimed to have found a mobile charger among Seema's belongings which suggest that she had a mobile phone. "But she did not provide any mobile phone number to Ishaan's family, which by itself raises doubts about her. Also, till now we have not found any family in East of Kailash who had employed Seema. Prima facie, it appears to be a premeditated plan," said a senior police officer.

"The police are at a disadvantage as there is no documentation or contact of Seema. Several teams have been formed and they have been dispatched to Jharkhand as well as the NCR region where some leads have been developed," said joint commissioner of police (south) Amulya Patnaik.

Crime Patrol:Foul murder case of a 5th Class Student in Bind (M.P.)-30 Dec 2011

Bhopal: A CCTV installed at the hostel premises in Bhind district helped police unravel a tragic incident wherein a nine-year-old boy was thrown off the roof by his senior inmate on warden's order. The boy died. The warden had allegedly lured the class 10 student to throw off the boy, promising 80% marks in the final exams.

The blood curdling incident took place at the hostel of Scholars Public School on November 27.

Gaurav Gupta, a class five student, was found dead under mysterious circumstances. Initially, police thought that Gaurav, who hailed from Jalaun (UP), fell to death accidentally. Later examination of CCTV installed at the hostel premises unrevealed the shocking story. The footage showed Gaurav Gupta, apparently asleep, being taken on shoulder towards the roof by his teenaged inmate. Nineteen seconds later, the footage shows the teenager returning without the boy. During interrogation the accused revealed it to police that he was instructed to throw Gaurav off the roof by his warden Ashok Singh.

Ashok Singh and the teenaged accused have been arrested on charges of murder and conspiracy.

Sources said, Gaurav had complained against the warden to his parents after being beaten up badly over silly mischief. The warden, who feared action from the school over injury marks on Gaurav, decided to eliminate him fabricating the case as of an accident.

Police said that the warden was well aware that 16 CCTV cameras were installed at the hostel premises but was under impression that all of them were non-functional. Bhind superintendent of police (SP) Anurag told DNA that the motive behind murder of young child is not clear. "We would be taking the accused on police remand for more details" he said.

The inside story

Lucknow, Sun Aug 14 2011: Fourteen-year-old Akbar’s appeal to the judge to let him remain with his Hindu guardian instead of transferring him to his Muslim mother has shot Aiku Lal Sandil to national headlines. However, for the tea vendor from Baradari, Lucknow, taking in Akbar wasn’t something he thought twice about. Having been raised by a Muslim man himself, Sandil couldn’t just look away when he found the six-year-old lost boy in a Lucknow park eight years ago.
“I am a Hindu brought up by a kind Muslim man. When I found Akbar, it was like God telling me that it is time to return the love and care I got from His people. I was never forced to change my religion and, having got that education from my guardian, it was my duty to take care of the child and bring him up as per his own religion,” Sandil says.
The bond the two share was acknowledged by the Allahabad High Court in January 2008 when it turned down Akbar’s biological mother Shahnaz Begum’s habeas corpus petition. Shahnaz had argued that since Akbar was a Muslim, if Sandil raised him, it would “create dichotomy and disharmony in the social sphere and in their relationship”.

Dismissing her petition, after Akbar said he wanted to live with Sandil rather than his parents, Justice Barkat Ali Zaidi said India is a secular country where the consideration of caste and creed should not be allowed to prevail. “...If there can be inter-caste marriages... there can also be an inter-caste ‘father and son’ relationship and that need not raise eyebrows,” the judge said.

Shahnaz has now moved the Supreme Court, and last week it asked her to file an affidavit on her monthly income, the property she owns and the school where her other two children study.

What the high court found strange was that Shahnaz approached it in 2007, four years after Akbar went missing, and that she had not even filed an FIR in the intervening period.

Akbar’s parents first stepped forward to claim their son after they saw Sandil on TV, recounting his story to mediapersons at a political party’s office in Qaiserbagh where he briefly worked. “They came to me... I did not know them. Later on, the district administration decided that since they had not lodged any FIR, Akbar would live with me,” says Sandil. Later, the parents moved the high court.

A six-year-old at the time he got lost, Akbar had gone to a liquor shop with his father in Allahabad, where they lived. While the father was busy buying liquor, he strayed away and somehow landed up in Lucknow.

It was Sandil’s neighbour Kushmavati Devi who first noticed Akbar on a cold winter evening in 2003, playing with her children in a park next to Baradari. “As the children returned home, he started crying. He said his name was Akbar and that his father had gone to bring food and also that he lived in Pan Dariba. Sandil was also here and I handed over Akbar to him,” remembers Kushmavati.

With five children of her own, Kushmavati has been a foster parent to the boy. It’s at her house that he drops in for most meals.

Sandil says when he found Akbar, he had liver problems, weak limbs and an infected foot which made it difficult for him to walk. “I took him to doctors; I also massaged his limbs with medicated ointments. Once he broke his hand and I carried him as far as Etaunja to get treatment,” say Kushmavati.

Sandil recounts how he himself was brought up by Chaudhary Mujtaba Hussain, who was a member of a governing body that looked after the well-known Baradari moument. “I have seen Aiku living with my father ever since I was a child,” says Chaudhary Hasan Imam, Hussain’s son.

Hussain taught Sandil how to read and write English, Hindi and Urdu, though he never went to school. Despite his meagre income, Sandil has ensure that doesn’t happen to Akbar. “Initially, Akbar was enrolled in Prathamic Vidhyalaya, Qaiser Bagh, Refugee Camp, and two years later, he was enrolled in Queens Inter College. Recently, I shifted him to Mumtaz Inter College, Aminabad, where the classes are more regular,” says Sandil. He also pays Rs 100 a month for a daily, one-hour tuition in a nearby area.
“My income is not much but I am doing all I can to educate Akbar. I hardly save Rs 500 per month,” says Sandil.

Every Friday, Sandil also ensures, Akbar goes to the masjid to offer namaaz. “Abhi namaaz yaad to nahin hai par main jumme ke jumme masjid jata zaroor hoon (Though I do not remember the prayers as of now, I definitely go to the masjid every Friday),” says Akbar.

If the Supreme Court directs that Akbar be given to his parents, Sandil says, he will abide. “But if it is against the will of Akbar, I will not leave the child crying with his mother.”

Crime Patrol: Wrist watch helps Aurangabad police unravel murder mystery (Episode 68 - 17th December 2011)

Cops find a dead body of Sudarshan Kambli a bus driver who works for BEST lying in the field of Sangamner and also succeeds in finding her wife who had filed a police complaint in Parel depot as he was missing from since few days. Sudarshan was already married and Deepa was his second wife. Cops gets to know that Sudarshan came to Sangamner with his sister-in-law Ankita. Who killed Sudarshan? Who is Jagdish Maharaj?

The Inside Story
AURANGABAD: The anti-dacoity squad of the Aurangabad rural police has cracked a murder mystery with the help of the victim's wrist watch that had the word BEST' embossed on its back.

The police have identified the victim as Siddhartha Ahire (52), an employee of BEST in Mumbai and a resident of Thane, whose body was found in a severely battered shape in a farm in Garaj, under the Shivur police jurisdiction of Vaijapur taluka in the early hours of July 15.

Ahire's killing was allegedly ordered by his wife Usha (35), who had paid Rs 30,000 for the job through her lover Pravin Deshmukh (35) alias Pravan Maharaj, a resident of Kannad, in Aurangabad district, who is a quack and a self-styled godman.

Usha, her younger sister Manisha Mirani (28), both residents of Thane, Shivkumar Luttur Rajvar (35), a resident of Mumbai, Pravin Deshmukh and Navnath Rathod (30), the contract killer were arrested on Friday.

The court of Judicial Magistrate First Class in Vaijapur on Saturday remanded all the five suspects to police custody till August 12.

Assistant police inspector Sandeep Gurme, in charge of the squad, said that the body was found in the farm of Dnyanwshwar Chavan. Police had registered an offence of murder against unidentified people. Superintendent of police (SP) Manoj Lohia and additional SP Arvind Chavaria appointed two independent squads to solve the case as the body was battered beyond recognition by the culprits, he said.

"The only clue the police had was the wrist watch that Ahire was wearing and which had the word BEST embossed on its back. We zeroed in on the details and found out that he was a BEST employee. Usha had already lodged a missing complaint that her husband had gone missing from Sangamner in Ahmednagar district, where a court had directed him to deposit Rs 1,200 as maintenance to his first wife," Gurme said.

According to Gurme, Usha and her husband came in contact with Deshmukh, who claimed to be possessing magical powers to cure diseases. Deshmukh also used to visit their residence in Thane and got acquainted with other family members. "In the meantime, Usha and Deshmukh developed illicit relations, but they found Ahire to be an obstacle and decided to eliminate him. Three days before the murder, Manisha, Usha's sister, visited Deshmukh in Kannad and gave him Rs 30,000, which was paid to the contract killer, Navnath Rathod," he said.

Gurme said that as per the plan, Usha asked her husband to go to Sangamner along with her sister Manisha, who was to get married on July 14. "They reached Sangamner on July 14, the day when he was also supposed to deposit the maintenance allowance in court. However, Usha insisted that he go to Kannad to get his ailment cured. Ahire called Deshmukh, who in turn asked him to come to Deogaon Rangari near Vaijapur, which is closer to Sangamner," he said.

"The duo picked up Ahire from Deogaon Rangari, brought him towards the Garaj area and attacked and killed him with sharp weapons and abandoned his body in the farm. Later, they burnt the bag and other belongings of Ahire. They also tried to wipe out all the evidences except the wrist watch, which eventually led to their arrest," said Gurme.

Crime Patrol: 'Accidental death' turns to murder, three arrested (Episode 67 on 16th December 2011)

The Inside Story
PUNE: Three people were arrested on Wednesday evening for allegedly murdering a 19-year-old youth on August 14.

The body of Mayur Pathare of Kharadi was found on the railway tracks at Mundhwa. The government railway police (GRP) had registered a case of accidental death, but the identity of the victim could not be ascertained. Since there were no claimants to the body, the GRP cremated it.

The murder came to light while investigating a 'missing persons' complaint lodged by Pathare's parents, said inspector Vishwanath Ghanwat (crime) of the Yerawada police station.

The police have identified the suspects as Sachin Dagdu Kolhe (22) and Mahesh Chandrakant Agarkar (19), both residents of Vadgaonsheri, and Avinash Dilip Gawli (25) of Kharadi.

According to the police, Pathare was in love with a girl, but she deserted him and fell in love with Agarkar. Pathare threatened Agarkar and asked him to discontinue his relation with the girl. Pathare also thrashed Agarkar on August 10.

On the day of the murder, Pathare had asked Agarkar to meet him at Mundhwa bridge at 6.30 pm for a discussion. But Agarkar suspected some foul play and entered into a criminal conspiracy with Kolhe and reached the spot with a rope and a knife. The trio had a heated discussion over the woman, and Agarkar and Kolhe thrashed Pathare and strangled him with the rope. Kolhe attacked Pathare with the knife, killing him on the spot, the police said.

Ghanwat told TOI that the duo took three gold chains of 11 tolas, Rs 2,000 and two cell phones from Pathare and dumped his body on a railway track in Mundhwa, which was run over by a train.

Ghanwat told TOI that the duo took three gold chains of 11 tolas, Rs 2,000 and two cell phones from Pathare and dumped his body on a railway track in Mundhwa, which was run over by a train.

The suspects sold the cell phones through Gawli. However, while probing the 'missing person' complaint, constable Yashwant Khandare detained them as investigations had revealed that they had been in possession of the cell phones.

During interrogation, Agarkar and Kolhe admitted to murdering Pathare over a dispute relating to the girl. Gawli was arrested on charges of disposing of the cell phones.

The victim's relatives identified Pathare by his photograph and clothes.

The suspects were arrested by assistant police inspector Manoj Khandagle and policemen Kiran Neil and Rajaram Gogre under the guidance of senior inspector Deepak Sawant.

Sub-inspector D T Karche has registered a case against the suspects for committing an offence under sections 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy), 302 (murder), 201 (destroying evidence), 394 (robbery) and 411 (selling stolen property) read with 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

Crime Patrol: postmortem report confirmed that " Shikha was sexually assaulted and then killed (Episode 24 - 16th July 2011)

The Inside Story

The innocent-looking Shikha Dubey (23) and Deepu Yadav (24), both post-graduate students at the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya University in the nondescript eastern UP district of Gorakhpur, just wanted to live together. But their macabre act to achieve this end has sent shock waves across the state.

Shikha's father, Ram Prakash Dubey, reported to the police on June 16 that his daughter had gone missing. The following day, the body of a girl was discovered near the Saryu Canal Colony, which was identified as the missing Shikha's.

Ram Prakash then told the police that only Deepu, her university friend, could be behind the murder.

"The face of the body, the policemen showed me had been crushed by a heavy object and the other parts were burnt with cigarettes. There were stab injuries too and one of the eyes had been gouged out. The dead girl, wearing the same salwarkurta in which Shikha had gone missing, appeared to be my daughter," Ram Prakash said.
Interestingly, the postmortem report confirmed that " Shikha was sexually assaulted and then killed". The police then launched a manhunt for Deepu.

On June 18, however, the father realised that something was amiss. " I was somehow not convinced with the way the incidents had played out. So I went to the police and requested them for a second postmortem examination, but it led nowhere," he said.

Gorakhpur DIG Mukesh Shukla said: " Shikha and Deepu got married secretly in Gorakhpur's Budhiya Mai temple on April 18 and wanted to live together. But Shikha didn't want her parents to hunt for her while she lived with Deepu. So, Deepu spent two months searching for a girl whose figure resembled that of Shikha. His friend Sugreev helped him meet Pooja Kumari, a resident of Sonbhadra, who bit the bill.

They paid Pooja Rs 3000 and brought her to Gorakhpur on some pretext for two days. On June 17, they killed and defaced her, put her in Shikha's salwarkurta and Sugreev dumped the body near the Saryu Canal Colony. Then the couple left for Varanasi."

Inside Story

New Delhi, July 25 (IANS) Five teams have been set up to nab the three men on the run, who were involved in kidnapping a 24-year-old woman in south Delhi, police said Monday. The woman was rescued within hours of her abduction Sunday night and two of her kidnappers arrested.

Police also announced a reward of Rs.5,000 for the cab driver whose call to police in time helped in the speedy rescue and arrest of two of the accused - Kartar Singh, 22, and Pramod Kumar, 22.

“The houses of all the three absconding kidnappers - Deepak, 20, Ravish Nagar, 24, and Arun 26 - are locked. We have sent our teams to Faridabad (Haryana) and will definitely nab them,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Chhaya Sharma.

Police officials said all the three belonged to well-off families and have completed their Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA). Deepak is son of a Haryana Police official.

Police commended the role of cab driver Amit, who immediately informed the police after the woman was forced out of his taxi and kidnapped.

“The cab driver made a call in time that helped us to rescue the kidnapped girl. If it was ten minutes late, the culprits might have managed to enter Faridabad, that might have caused delay in rescuing the girl. He will be rewarded,” said Sharma.

The five men, who were drunk, kidnapped the woman in south Delhi near the Ghitorni Metro station and drover her way forcibly. The woman was with three other female friends in a radio taxi and was returning home to Badarpur area.

“Kartar Singh, 22, and his four friends came across the woman and her three friends at Pigeon Bar in Gurgaon’s Sahara Mall. Under the influence of alcohol, these five men approached these girls and misbehaved with them,” the official said.

“The girls called a cab to take them back to Badarpur. Their cab was intercepted by Kartar and his friends near Ghitorni Metro station, where they kidnapped the victim,” added the officer.

“On receiving the information at 3.30 a.m., police swung into action and rescued the women and nabbed two of the kidnappers while three managed to flee,” added the officer.

According to police 6-year-old child Aditya and her 21-year-old cousin sister Payal both were missing since yesterday evening after they went to medical store on two-wheeler.

Later the parents of Aditya received telephone call demanding Rs 1 crore for Aditya’s safety and delivery.

The family called police and simultaneously agreed with a person on the other end of phone call with some bargain.

Accordingly early in the morning on Wednesday, father of Aditya went to S.G.Highway to pay Rs 25 lakh cash and Rs 18 lakh jewellery to kidnappers.

As soon as kidnappers arrived on bike and received the money, police team present at some distance in simple dress nabbed them.

When cops asked about Payal who was also missing with Aditya, the kidnappers told that Payal was part of the kidnapping plot. They said Aditya was kept at one office that was closed due to Diwali.

Police arrested Payal and rescued Aditya from kidnappers.

Payal confessed that she had plotted kidnapping of her cousin brother because she was emotionally attached with her boyfriend who had lost Rs 10 lakh in bating and was needing money.

Ahmedabad Crime Branch police officer Himanshu Shukla said there was an incident of Rs 65,000 theft at Payal’s house, and Payal was alone at the time of that incident, therefore it is also possible that she only could be responsible for that theft act to help her boyfriend.

Payal is student of SM Patel college in Ahmedabad.

When media persons were capturing the accused, Payal was covering her face with hands, however her boyfriend Shetty and other accused were open and out in front of cameras.

-After some time another in another phone call, Bharatbhai was asked whether he had managed the money or not yet. When Bharatbhai replied that he couldn’t manage this much of big amount, the person told Bharatbhai that he could settle with Rs 50 lakh otherwise he has committed murders thrice and he could do it for one more time.

-At 10.30 pm there was another phone call on land line and the kidnapper told Bharatbhai that ‘you are a heart patient and you also will die and your children too will die, how much money you can manage?’ To this, Bharatbhai replied that he could manage Rs 10 lakh. Bharatbhai also asked where to reach, and at what location he should come and give money.
