Part 2

The Inside Story

Officials of the NRI police station in CBD Belapur have a mystery on their hands, after they recovered the body of one Surekha Bhima Aantgali from Sector 20 in Belapur village around 4.30 am on Friday, and some time later, were alerted that her three-year-old daughter had been found sleeping on the footpath on Palm Beach Road.

The deceased, who is estimated to be in her late 20s, had her name tattooed on her right forearm, which helped the police identify her. They were flummoxed, however, when Surekha’s three-year-daughter, Chakuli, was found sleeping on a divider on Palm Beach Road by a local resident at around 8 am, who asked her about her parents and handed her over to the police.

Residents of Sector 20 were alerted about Surekha’s body lying in the area after a woman spotted it and informed others. Officials from the NRI police station reached the spot and sent Surekha’s body to the Vashi Municipal Hospital for a post-mortem. Around 8 am, a woman living in the NRI complex saw Chakuli sleeping on the Palm Beach Road divider.

Officials said when the toddler was brought to the police station, they noticed that the shade of her nail polish resembled that of Surekha’s. When Chakuli was shown Surekha’s photo, she identified her as her mother.

Crime Patrol: Mumbai: Married man kills ex-fiancee after she threatens to tell village panchayat about affair (Episode 534, 535 on 25th, 26th July 2015)

Part 1

Part 2

The Inside Story

NAVI MUMBAI: The APMC police officials have successfully detected the murder case of a pregnant woman whose body was found dumped in an open drain in Koparkhairane earlier this month.

With the arrest of the murder accused, Dangalsingh Karmawat (29), a resident of Shivpuri district in Madhya Pradesh, the cops have been able to unravel the bizarre history of over 12 years which eventually led to the strangulation of the 25-year-old woman.

"The accused and the woman, now identified as Kismat Guddawat alias Shilpa, were engaged to each other by their families around 12 years ago. However, due to steep dowry demand by the girl's family based in Rajasthan, the engagement was later broken by the accused boy's family. The girl was later sent to Mumbai to work as a waitress in a bar at Thane," said DCP (zone 1) Shahji Umap.

Reportedly, in the Banjara community, it is the girl's family which demands dowry due to a lopsided boy-girl ratio.

Around three years back, the accused somehow got in touch with Shilpa again when he had visited his two sisters' residences in Navi Mumbai.

The two regularly kept in touch through their cell phones, although Karmawat had already got married to another woman and has three kids. Around a month-and-half ago, he developed intimate relationship with Shilpa, though she did not reportedly tell him that she was pregnant because of her affair with another youth from Thane.

"On the night of February 10, the victim and the accused had a major fight in Koparkhairane as she persistently demanded him to marry her and take her back to the village. When Karmawat told her that he cannot do so as he is already married, Shilpa threatened to complain to the village panchayat about him having an illicit affair with her," said DCP Umap.

Afraid of the repercussions in case Shilpa complained at his village, he strangled her to death and then wrapped the body in a bedsheet to dispose it at the open drain in Bonkode.

A team of APMC police station led by senior inspector Maya More and API Ulhas Kadam, soon circulated the photos of the deceased woman at various police stations and also questioned a few bar girls. Eventually, one bar girl managed to identify the body from its face photo and further informed the cops about her Thane based lover.

On quizzing the Thane based youth, the police team realized that he could not have possibly murdered her. Later, on learning about her broken engagement 12 years back and later becoming friendly again with Karmawat, the cops instinctively knew that he could have killed her. He was arrested earlier this week.

The accused is reportedly feeling remorse for killing his pregnant ex-fiancee in the heat of the moment, but he told the cops that he was not aware that she was pregnant or that she had an affair with another Thane based youth. Impressed by the quick investigation carried out by the zone-1 police team, the Commissioner of Police, K L Prasad, has given a Rs 15000 cash award to the officials who worked on this case.

Crime Patrol: Trader shot dead in Malaviyanagar (Episode 531, 532 on 17th, 18th July 2015)

Part 1

Part 2

The Inside Story

RAJKOT: Malaviyanagar police officials probing the murder of a trader said on Wednesday that they are yet to ascertain the reason behind the crime.

Ripal Chaniyara, 30, was shot dead from a point blank range while he was driving from Kankot to Pal on his motorcycle near orchard owned by Jasmat Harsoda on Tuesday afternoon.

Ripal had gone to his house to collect tiffin box for his younger brother Sudhir and was returning to his shop when the incident occurred. Ripal had left his shop in the afternoon and when he did not return till 2.15 pm, Sudhir called his wife Namrata who said that Ripal had come and already left at 1 pm. Thus Sudhir started searching for him.

Meanwhile, a passer-by spotted Ripal's body lying on the road along with his bike and informed police on Tuesday evening. "Earlier, we assumed that the victim had been bludgeoned to death as there was a deep injury on the back of his skull. However, his postmortem report revealed that he had been shot as there were pallets fired from a country-made gun embedded in his skull," said a Malaviyanagar police official.

Ripal, a native of Dungari village in Vanthali, had settled in Rajkot some eight years ago and had set up a hardware shop in Vavdi area of Rajkot. After sometime, he called his brother and his family to stay with him in Ambika Township.

In his statement to police, Sudhir said Ripal had no financial dispute nor did he have any enmity with anyone. "We are investigating whether extramarital affair was the reason behind the crime," said the official.

Rajkot financier kills self after hiring sharp shooters to murder friend

Five days after a trader was found dead, city police unravelled the mystery surrounding the incident by arresting two men and claiming that the trader was shot dead by contract killers. Ripal Chaniyara (35), owner of a hardware store in Vavdai area of the city was found dead near Kankot village on the outskirts of the city last Tuesday. Malaviyanagar police had concluded that Chaniyara was shot from point blank range and murdered. However, investigators could not achieve any breakthrough in the case until Sunday when Hardik Mankadiya (30), city-based financier was also found dead in Munjka village near the city. Police said Mankadiya’s scull was broken into pieces as a bullet, shot form close range, ripped through his head. Police also found a pistol from near the body of Mankadiya. Initially, police believed that Mankadiya, once a friend to Chaniyara, was also murdered. But police found a suicide note in Mankadiya’s office on Gondal road, establishing that the financier had killed himself “after committing a mistake.”

Mankadiya’s alleged suicide led police to his friend Manish Padaliya who owns a factory in the city. Police said Mankadiya and Chaniyara had fallen out with each other around one-and-half-year ago when the trader suspected that his financier friend was getting too close to his wife Harshida. Around a month ago, Mankadiya told his friend Manish Padaliya, a chum of Chaniyara, to help him eliminate the trader.

Manish refused to cooperate but gave in to Makadiya’s demand after the financier threatened him not end partnership in a plot of land.

Subsequently, Manish introduced Bhavin alias Kano Padaliya, a factory owner to Mankadiya. Police said Bhavin agreed to for a contract to kill Chaniyara for Rs20 lakh. Then he got in with Kana Ahir and Sagar Karavadiya, both residents of Junagadh district. As planed, Ahir shot Chaniyara dead on May 26 with the help of Bhavin’s unlicensed pistol. A couple of days after Chaniyara’s murder, Mankadiya asked Manish to give him the weapon used to commit the crime. He shot himself with the same pistol and committed suicide on Sunday, police said.

Malaviyanagar police had also questioned Mankadiya after Chaniyara’s murder. But he told police that he had not relations with the trader for the last 18 months.

As it emerged that Mankadia was mastermind of Chaniyara’s muder and Manish and Bhavin helped commit the crime, Malaviyanagar police arrested the two factory owners on Sunday. Police said efforts were on to nab the two contract killers.

“We believe, Mankadiya had developed a relationship with Harshida but Chaniyara was proving to be an obstacle in it. Therefore, the financier had the trader murdered,” Malaviyanagar police inspector Mulu Godhaniya said on Sunday.
