UP cop held for murder of woman raped by his son (Episode 401, 402 on 2nd, 3rd Aug 2014)

Part 1
Part 2
The Inside Story
A sub-inspector of the Uttar Pradesh Police was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the murder of a 25-year-old woman, who had filed a rape case against the police official's son a year ago.
Bachchu Singh, a resident of Ghaziabad in UP, had allegedly hired a contract killer for Rs. 1.5 lakh to execute his plan. The woman was murdered in November last year and her body was disposed of in an irrigation canal in Aligarh, 336 km west of state capital Lucknow. The contract killer, his journalist wife, Singh's son and a police constable have also been arrested. During interrogation, Amarpal, the hitman, admitted to killing the woman and accused the sub-inspector (SI) of hatching the plot. The woman, who used to run a mobile store in Ghaziabad after parting ways with her husband, went missing on November 30, 2013. After two days, her family members filed an abduction case, which said the woman left home after receiving a call from Rashmi Chaudhary, a journalist who had promised her a job. The police zeroed in on Chaudhary, a frequent visitor to the woman's house and believed to be Amarpal's wife. The couple is from the Aligarh area. "The woman's younger brother had clicked her (Chaudhary's) photograph on a mobile phone (which helped the police in the chase)... The couple was arrested late on Monday night," a superintendent-level police official said. "Our investigations have revealed the SI sought help from a police constable... Amarpal was roped in for Rs. 1.5 lakh," the official added. Chaudhary took the woman to Aligarh, where Amarpal and an aide strangled her, the police official said. "The body is yet to be recovered." The woman, who was Singh's neighbour, had filed a case of rape in March 2013 against the police official's son Tarun, who was chargesheeted in the case and is out on bail.

Mumbai: Movies can be inspiring. But it depends on what kind of inspiration a person wants to draw from them. Officials from Charkop police station on Sunday nabbed a gang of eight for deceiving one of their uncles by posing as Income Tax (I-T) officials.

Cops say the plot was hatched after the mastermind watched Bollywood movie Special 26 on television last month and decided to scam his uncle. The accused fooled the victim into giving them ₹ 1.65 crore, expensive watches and jewellery that was hidden at his residence by one of his friends to keep it out of reach of genuine I-T officials.

The police said Malad-based builder Ramjibhai Shah had stashed the cash and valuables at his friend Jayantibhai Sarvaiya's residence at sector 8 in Charkop, to prevent I-T officials from confiscating it.

They said I-T officials had raided Shah's residence three months ago and seized cash and other valuables. A police official, requesting anonymity, claimed that the gang was busted after the arrest of Jagdish Mewada - Sarvaiya's nephew and the mastermind.

He said Mewada hatched the plot after watching the movie at his Dharavi residence last month. The official said Mewada trained five of his friends to act as I-T officials by making them watch Special 26 at least five times. He said the accused prepared themselves at a rented apartment in Govandi.

Raid day
As per the plan, Mewada's friends raided Sarvaiya's residence on June 2 at 7.30 am. They arrived at his residence in a car they had hired from Govandi, the official said. While five of them entered Sarvaiya's residence posing as I-T officials, Mewada and two others kept vigil outside the house.

The impostors who entered the house collected the cash and valuables within an hour and took Sarvaiya along before leaving his residence. One of them told Sarvaiya that they were taking him to the I-T department headquarters in Worli.

However, the gang halted on the Western Express Highway (WEH) at Goregaon on the pretext of taking a tea break and asked Sarvaiya to directly report at the headquarters. Realising that something was amiss, Sarvaiya later approached the Charkop police and lodged a complaint against the five accused.

Cop speak
API Rao Rane from Charkop police station said, "After this scam, Mewada kept calling Sarvaiya and asked for money. He was addicted to playing lottery and had gone broke. This raised our suspicion and we took Mewada into custody. During interrogation he confessed to the crime and revealed the identity of his friends.

He even disclosed that it was one of his relatives who informed him about the cash and valuables at his uncle's residence. While we have arrested Mewada and his friends, a manhunt has been launched to nab the insider who tipped him."

The other seven accused were identified as Paresh Goswami (35), Bharat Wegda (30), Kadar Sheikh (32), Pankaj Chavan (34), Firoz Sheikh (30), Balkrishna (35) and Yunis Sheikh, all residents of Dharavi. Cops said Kadar had earlier been arrested for his involvement in stealing cellphones.

All the eight accused were booked under Sections 395, 451, 170, 342 and 120 (b). They were produced in the court yesterday and have been remanded in police custody till June 20.

Wealthy couples found killed in Noida (Episode 860, 861 on 7, 8 Oct 2017)

Bhule Chauhan (70) and his wife Rani Chauhan (55) were found murdered in their
three-storey house in Noida Sector-44, where they lived alone on Saturday
morning, police said.

The incident reportedly came to the light around 8:30 am when a local priest
reached their house to invite the duo in a religious programme organised at a
nearby temple.

After finding their bodies under semi-decomposed condition, the priest informed
the local police immediately that reached the spot and took away bodies for
autopsy after breaking the door locked from inside.

A senior police official said the couples owned properties worth crores,
including three houses and valuable lands in posh sectors of Noida. Police
suspect that they might have been killed by some known person over alleged
undertaking of their properties.

Superintendent of police, Noida, Dinesh Yadav said the couples were attacked by
blunt objects on their head and police are investigating the case from all
angles.

Also, Inspector General (Meerut Range) Ajay Aanad, along with senior police
officials, inspected the spot.

The deceased had a 21-year-old son Gaurav Chauhan who died five years ago under
mysterious circumstances, police said.

After the death of his first wife, Bhule had married another woman, said police,
adding that he had a daughter with his first wife who got married with one
Krishna of Shapur village but they were not in contact from a long time.

Police said Bhule had two elder brothers who died a few years ago. There is no
legal heir of their property and they lived on the rent collected from their
properties, said police. Sources said the murder was committed over a matter of
property overtake.

"Both of them were seen by the locals last time on Friday around 10 am. We
suspected that they were killed on the same day. There was also a friendly entry
into the house. The valuables were not ransacked which denies robbery bids,”
said some local residents.

"We are questioning a shopkeeper to ascertain the identity of the people who
were friendly with the couple. Also, we are questioning their relatives to find
out their involvement in this case," the SP said.

An FIR was registered against unknown persons under section 302(murder) of the
IPC in sector 39 Police Station.

A spy-style murder.

A 28-year-old banker was murdered by his wife's ex-lover with the help of a
physiotherapist, who injected him with a lethal dose of poison in the neck in
a market in Delhi.

According to reports, the victim, Ravi Kumar, who worked in Sadar Bazar, was
headed home on Saturday evening, when he felt a prick on his neck. Although he
collapsed within moments, he managed to turn and grab his assailant, Prem
Singh, who had been contracted to kill him by Anish Yadav, a gym trainer, who
was in love with Kumar's wife.

Singh was caught by the people and Kumar taken to a hospital, where he died of
poisoning within hours. In his testimony to the police, Singh said he was paid
₹150,000 to finish off Kumar by Yadav, who had been in a relationship with the
latter's wife.

Police sources said Kumar's wife had broken off her relationship with Yadav
after she got married about a year ago. Yadav, too, tied the knot in July last
year, but continued to be in touch with his former lover. When Yadav's wife
found out about their relationship, she left him, at which point Yadav started
putting pressure on Kumar's wife to leave her husband too.

Since Kumar's wife resisted Yadav's plan, he decided to plot the murder to get
the "hurdle" out of the way. Singh allegedly procured several deadly drugs —
Midazolam, Fortwin and Phenergan — from a hospital to make a lethal cocktail,
which he tried to inject into Kumar while he was travelling in an auto
rickshaw in October last year. However, he missed his chance that time and
Kumar too didn't complain to the police.

Bulgarian dissident Georgi Markov was killed in a similar manner, poisoned by
the tip of an umbrella as he was waiting for a bus in Central London, in
1978.

According to police, the incident took place on the evening of January 7, when
the victim, Ravi Kumar, who worked at Sadar Bazar, was heading home.

Police said Kumar was rushed to St Stephen’s Hospital nearby, where he died of
poisoning the next day.

“Kumar was injected on his neck by one Prem Singh, a physiotherapist. He told
police he had murdered Kumar after being approached by his friend Aneesh
Yadav, a gym trainer. Initial investigation revealed that Yadav planned the
murder as Kumar’s wife was in a relationship with him before she got married,”
said additional DCP (north) Esha Pandey. Police said Singh allegedly took Rs
1.5 lakh from Yadav for the murder.

“It looks like two chemicals were mixed into the injection. The drugs have
been identified as Midazolam and Fortwin. We are seeking medical help for
clarity,” said the police officer.

Police said Kumar’s wife broke her relationship with Yadav after she got
married in February last year. Yadav, too, got married in July but they kept
in touch.

“Yadav’s wife got to know about this and she left him. Yadav then started
pressuring Kumar’s wife to leave her husband, which she refused. This irked
Yadav and he planned the murder,” claimed the police officer.

Police said Singh had also made an attempt on Kumar’s life in October, when he
injected the same chemical while he was in an auto. But Kumar survived at the
time and did not file a complaint, his father Pramod, an ex-serviceman,
said.

“When we reached the hospital on Sunday morning, his neck was swollen. He
passed away in the evening,” Pramod said. “I wish he had filed a police
complaint the last time.”

Online shopping records help police to unfold a murder case

The Inside Story
PUNE: A 'kurta' (top) purchased by the victim through an e-commerce website helped the Osmanabad police solve a six-month-old murder of a woman from Pune, whose body was found in a well at Wagholi village in Osmanabad district on December 21 last year.

The woman, identified as Kanchan Pardeshi (22), had been missing from Pune since July 2015. A missing person's complaint about her was registered with the Faraskhana police station. The Osmanabad police have arrested Pardeshi's former colleague, Prakash Chaphekar (28), and his accomplice for allegedly hacking her to death and dumping her body in the well. The team was led by sub-divisional police officer, Tuljapur division, Raj Tilak Roushan.

Harish Khedkar, inspector of the local crime branch of the Osmanabad police, told TOI that on December 21, 2015, the body of an unidentified woman was found in a well at Wagholi village. The woman's throat had been slit and she had stab wounds on her stomach, neck and other parts of the body.

"We had alerted all the neighbouring police stations and circulated photographs of the body. But we did not get any clue to identify the deceased woman," Khedkar said.

In May 2016, Roushan reopened the case and began investigations. As the woman was found wearing a blue 'kurta', police started collecting information about the manufacturer of such tops. "We came to know that these tops were manufactured somewhere in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and sold all over the country through an e-commerce website," Khedkar said.

Police contacted the e-commerce company and acquired the information of people who had purchased such kurtas. "We got their cellphone numbers and even started searching profiles on a social working website," Khedkar said.

Police traced one of these cellphone numbers to Wagholi village. Investigating further, they identified a person from the village who may have knowledge of the crime and summoned him for questioning. This man turned out to be Chaphekar's accomplice. "During sustained interrogation, he narrated the entire incident," Khedkar said.

The police officials were able to identify the woman as Pardeshi. "We checked with the Pune police and found that a missing person's complaint about Pardeshi had been registered in July 2015 with the Faraskhana police station," Khedkar said.

The Osmanabad police then took Chaphekar into custody from Pune. "During sustained interrogation, Chaphekar spilled the beans," Khedkar said.

Chaphekar, who has an MBA, worked in a Pune-based private firm, where he met Pardeshi. He had an extra-marital relationship with Pardeshi. In 2015, he left the job in Pune and started working in a firm in Nagpur. When Pardeshi started asking him to marry her, he asked her to come to Nagpur. In July last year, Pardeshi went to Nagpur.

Chaphekar stayed with Pardeshi in Nagpur till December. "As Chaphekar did not want to marry Pardeshi, he hatched the plot to eliminate her," Khedkar said.

In the second week of December, Chaphekar took Pardeshi on a trip. They reached Osmanabad on December 20 in a car. "Chaphekar had already contacted his accomplice and had informed him about the murder plot," Khedkar said.

As soon as they reached near Wagholi, Khedkar's accomplice joined them. "The two men stabbed Pardeshi with a sharp weapon and also slit her throat. They dumped her body in the well. Chaphekar then returned to Pune," Khedkar said, adding, "We arrested him from Pune on June 17 and also seized the car used in the crime."
