Crime Patrol: Spurned man kills sister-in-law, rapes body and dumps it in Malad creek (Episode 687, 688 on 23rd, 24th July, 2016)

MUMBAI: Four months after a woman was brutally murdered, raped and her body stuffed in a sack and dumped in a creek at Malad, the police arrested her brother-in-law, his relative and friend for the crime. The prime accused, Raees Qureshi, reportedly told the police that he raped his sister-in-law Ruby Qureshi after killing her out of spite.

"Raees' wife got along with Ruby, but he felt that she often humiliated him in public. He wanted to get intimate with her, but she turned him down," said a police officer. Raees told the police he was not happy with Ruby marrying his brother Azad and was upset by her dominating nature.

On January 9, the police found a naked woman's decomposed body in a sack near a creek at Dharavli village; her arms and legs were bound. During investigation, the police learnt that a woman had gone missing from the Ambhujwadi slums in Malwani. They showed the imitation jewellery that was on the body to the mother of the missing woman, who identified them as belonging to her daughter Ruby.

Ruby and Azad, a caterer, had tied the knot four years ago in Delhi against their families' wishes. After their child turned two, they moved to Ambhujwadi in October 2015. Later even Raees, a vegetable vendor, moved into the same neighbourhood.

The police said that when Raees tried to get intimate with her, she complained to Azad, but he ignored her. "Raees hatched a plan to eliminate Ruby and roped in his relative, Isaq Qureshi, and friend, Shabbir. On January 3, Raees sent his wife away for some work and after Azad left for his job, Raees called Ruby to his place where Isaq and Shabbir were already waiting. The trio bludgeoned Ruby with a brick and strangled her. Raees then raped the corpse, the police said. To prevent the body from being identified, they undressed her and packed her body in a sack. While Shabbir stayed at home, Raees and Isaq took the sack on a bike to a deserted portion of Dharavli village and dumped it there," said DCP Vikram Deshmane. In March, Raees and his family left town.

The police suspected Raees' involvement in the crime as he kept changing his statements about Ruby's disappearence and tried to mislead investigators. He was arrested on May 21. Based on his confession, Isaq and Shabbir were held on Sunday. A magistrate's court has remanded them to police custody till May 27.

Crime Patrol: Six held for child trafficking (Episode 681, 682 on 9th, 10th Jul, 2016)

Police rescued 7 children, 5 have been united with their parents

Hyderabad: The Nalgonda police on Friday busted a Cyberabad-based child trafficking racket and arrested a six-member gang. The cops also rescued seven children aged between one and four years.

The children were stolen from slums and lower middle-class colonies in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Vijayawada during summer nights when the families usually sleep outdoors. The children were sold in Aleru in Nalgonda to families that wanted male children.

While five of the children have been restored to their parents, two others are yet to be united with their parents.

According to Nalgonda superintendent of police T. Prabhakar Rao, the offenders hail from different parts of Telangana and Andhra. They had settled in New colony near Sai Baba Temple in Miyapur of Cyberabad.

“The kids are aged between one and four years. The abductions took place from November 2013 till date, mostly in March, April and May. The accused confessed to selling these children to various people for Rs 7,000 to Rs 1 lakh depending on the affordability of the purchasers,” said Mr Rao.

Police said the parents of two other children, one belonging to Vijayawada and the other from Cyberabad, are yet to be identified. There are several missing cases registered with Kukatpally, Miyapur and Sanatnagar police station and the Aleru police station in Nalgonda.

The arrested were identified as M. Mallaiah, 50, of Manthapur in Aleru, Kadiyala Rangamma, 50, of Budaveru in Vijayawada, M. Raju, 25, from Sangareddy, P. Yadamma, 60, of Zaheerabad in Medak, K. Pochamma, 60, of Aleru, and M. Butchamma, 55, of Rajapet in Nalgonda.

Police said that Raju, a stone-cutter, and Yadamma were the baby lifters who would visit places in the twin cities and Vijayawada and steal the babies from the mothers’ side while they were asleep at night. During the day, they would move around the colonies and slums in the disguise of hair sellers and identify potential houses.

“The duo would hand over the babies to Rangamma, a tea vendor, who would in turn sell them to Pochamma and Butchamma and then Mallaiah would identify prospective buyers and sell the babies,” said Mr Prabhakar.

“Most of the victims are from poor and lower middle-class families. In some of the cases, the kids had become attached to the couples who had bought them and they didn’t identify their natural parents,” he said.

Aleru police has booked cases under Sections 363 IPC (kidnapping) and 370 IPC, which will attract 14 years imprisonment and more.

“Cases have also been booked against the buyers. We will arrest them soon,” said the SP.

Crime Patrol: Daughter spills beans on mother’s affair, murdered (Episode 183 on 30th June, 2016)

CRIME_PATROL_BLOG_TITLE

The Inside Story

Ghaziabad: A woman and her lover were arrested on Thursday for allegedly killing the woman's seven-year-old daughter.

The girl, Ikra, a student of Class II, had gone missing from her home in Kanchan Park in Loni on March 12, and was found dead the next day. According to police, the suspects have been identified as Rashida and Shenewaj, who were having an extra-marital affair and killed the girl after she told her father about it.

"The duo was arrested from Loni railway station on Thursday when they were trying to flee," said Loni SHO A P Singh.

"After the body of Ikra was found, we questioned many people from the neighbourhood. During the course of investigation, we came to know about the relationship between Rashida and Shenewaj. This gave us ample reason to believe they might have been behind the murder," added Singh.

"During interrogation, they confessed to the crime," continued Singh.

The distraught father said he could not believe his daughter was killed by her mother.

"My daughter, Ikra, went missing on the evening of March 12. My wife said she had sent her to the nearby grocery store to buy some rice. Rashida told me Ikra had brought the rice back home, but took Rs 2 from her and ran outside to buy toffees for herself and never returned," said Yaseen, father of the deceased.

"We informed the police and searched for her ourselves, made several announcements over a public address system, but all in vain as she was to be found nowhere," he said.

The girl's body was eventually found in a gunny bag dumped on a vacant plot on March 13.

"I still can't believe my daughter was killed by her own mother. I hope Rashida and Shenewaj get the severest punishment," said Yaseen.

According to police, the girl had seen her mother in a compromising position with Shenewaj and had reported the matter to her father.

The enraged mother decided to get rid of her and called Shenewaj. They strangulated her and hid her body in the house.

On the evening of March 13, they dumped the body near Kanchan Park, close to the house. The accused have been booked under Section 302 of IPC and sent to jail.

Crime Patrol: Mumbai: Former employee held for killing senior citizen, caretakerMumbai: Former employee held for killing senior citizen, caretaker

Two days after an 84-year-old man and his caretaker were murdered in his plush Thane flat, the police on Thursday arrested two men for the crime.

Two days after an 84-year-old man and his caretaker were murdered in his plush Thane flat, the police on Thursday arrested two men for the crime. One of the accused is a former employee of the victim.

According to the police, Sitaram Shroff had fired Prashant Pawar (28) as his caretaker around three months ago because he suspected him of stealing money. Pawar wanted to avenge the insult, and had also planned to burgle the flat after killing his former employer, who lived alone in the Bramhand locality of Thane, officers said.

DCP Parag Manere said that Shroff suffered from an illness for which he needed a caretaker, and had hired Pawar’s father from a Sion-based agency nearly a year ago. His father could not be at work all the time and hence Pawar too started coming in for 12-hour shifts. The father-son duo was paid nearly Rs 1,000 per day. “Nearly three months ago, however, Pawar was caught stealing money from the house. Shroff then fired him and employed 41-year-old Santosh Lavgare as his caretaker,” the DCP said.

Pawar had been unemployed since then, police said.

“Pawar wanted revenge, and together with his friend Ashish Yadav (19), who resided in his locality in Kalyan, decided to murder both Shroff and Lavgare and make away with the money and valuables in the flat,” senior inspector of the Thane Police Crime Branch Nitin Thakre said.

Accordingly, the duo reached the Regency Heights building on Tuesday night, police said. The watchman asked them to enter their names and accompanied them to Shroff’s residence, where the duo was allowed in. Pawar spoke to the senior citizen for some time in his bedroom while Lavgare in the hall, the police said. After a point, the accused attacked Lavgare with blades they had been carrying.

“They stabbed him nearly 41 times,” an officer said. The two then went to the bedroom, smothered Shroff and made away with nearly Rs 40,000 cash, mobile phones and other electronic appliances.

Shroff’s grand daughter Rutika, who also stays in Mumbai, was informed about the incident, following which a case was registered at the Kasarwadavli police station.

An officer said that Shroff had two sons, one of whom passed away while the other lives in Sewri. It was through technical intelligence and CCTV footage at the society that the police managed to nab the accused, an officer added.

Manere said they will file an application for the case to be tried in a fast-track court and a special public prosecutor to be appointed.

Crime Patrol: a-fraud-man-marriage-with-62-woman-arrested-in-bihar (Dial 100 Episode 176 on 27th June, 2016)

New Delhi: Luck finally ran out for a 35-year-old man, who posed as a railway employee and conned more than 62 women into marrying him. Mohammad Sijam has been so obsessed with marriage that he married not once or twice but a total of 62 times by changing his name, religion and profession in varied cities in order to disguise bride’s family members.

However, Sijam’s luck ran out when he was caught in Vaishali district after 15 girls approached the police stating Sijam to be their spouse.

Sijam most often impersonated as Railway Travel Ticket Examiner (TTE). Police found TTE uniform, walkie-talkie, multiple sim cards, mobile phones and some porn CDs in his possession. He even went to railway platforms in the TTE uniform holding the walkie-talkie in order to win the confidence of the girls’ families.

It is weirdly intriguing how easily Sijam tricked 62 girls and their families by making them believe that he is a genuine and a well settled man. He even changed his religion, masquerading even as a Hindu to suit the religion of the girl he intended to marry. Sijam went about in different cities marrying girls changing his attire and modulating his looks from time to time to avoid getting caught.

One of the girls has even accused Sijam of trying to elope with her minor sister, when the elder one refused to marry him.

Sijam though has accepted of going ahead with 10 marriages and says that he took divorce from most of them. “I have done only 10 marriages and with most of them I took divorce. Only 3-4 girls remain married to me,” he said.
