Crime Patrol: Man murdered two to fake down death (Episode 298, 299 on 27, 28 Sep 2013)

Part 1

Part 2

The Inside Story

A 30-year-old criminal brutally murdered two innocent men to prove his own death in a failed attempt to mislead the police and force closure of criminal cases against him.

The accused, Gurnam Singh, defaced the first victim's face and cut his thumb. He also placed his identity-card inside the pocket of the victim. He burnt the second victim's body and left a suicide note in a 'desperate' attempt to prove himself dead.

However, Amritsar (rural) police was wise to the accused's 'perfect' planning and arrested Gurnam from Gharinda village on August 27.

Border Range inspector general RP Mittal said, "Recently, the police found a dead body near Attari. A case was registered on August 9 at the Gharinda police station. In the pocket of this dead body, the identity card and the mobile number of Gurnam Singh was found. One thumb of the victim had been slit."

As investigations picked up, family members of Gurnam Singh were called to identify the body. As they too were part of the conspiracy, they identified the body as Gurnam's.

However, despite the family's testimony, the apparent attitude of Gurnam's family and the fact that another person, Sandeep, a driver, had been reported as missing made the police wary of closing the case.

Later, Sandeep's family identified the body as their ward's through the footwear that the victim was wearing.

Investigations revealed that the body was not of Gurnam, but was indeed of driver Sandeep Singh, who had been hired by Gurnam, said the IG Mittal. Gurnam's family members were arrested for their part in a murder conspiracy.

Having got wind of his family's arrest, Gurnam managed to flee and came up with another plan to 'kill' himself. He murdered another innocent man and this time, even put a suicide note near the body.

"In yet another plan, Gurnam, along with some of his partners, lured a person from Ludhiana to come to Amritsar for a job and on the intervening night of August 15 and 16, murdered the man after a drinking binge. This time, the body was burnt. A fake suicide note, which purportedly stated that (Gurnam) was committing suicide because of fear of cases and also for a murder near Gharinda was also recovered."

However, the police also investigated this case and discovered that the body was not of Gurnam.

The police have arrested Gurnam's family members and a search was on to nab other who helped the accused.

Crime Patrol:Woman who tried to send Kanpur doctor's private parts to his wife confesses to his murder (Episode 292 on 8th Sep 2013)

The Inside Story

A woman has confessed to the brutal murder of doctor Satish Chandra after surrendering at the Govind Nagar police station.

The doctor was found dead with his throat and genitals slit, at a government guesthouse on July 21 in Govindnagar, Kanpur. The next day, a courier boy turned up with a parcel at Govindnagar police station.

On opening the packet, the police were shocked to find male private parts and investigations linked it to Chandra's murder.

Based on their probe, the police claimed to have arrested 25-year-old Preeti Balmiki for the crime.

Preeti has confessed to the crime, claiming Chandra was exploiting her physically and mentally over the past 13 years and was now eyeing her sister. "It was in 2001 that he came to our house to treat my sister. As we are poor, he showed sympathy and gave me a job at his clinic in 2003. Once he gave me some injections and then raped me. I became addicted to the drugs and he started sexually exploiting me," she said.

"I tried to talk to his wife but she chased me away. This is why I sent the parcel to her," she added.

Talking about the murder, she said: "He called me to the guesthouse on July 21. I mixed sedatives in his alcohol and after he became unconscious, I slit his throat and genitals with a surgical knife," she confessed.

"Preeti has committed a heinous crime but she might have some psychiatric problem. We will appeal to the court to consider arranging medical attention for her," Kanpur SSP Yashasvi Yadav said.

Crime Patrol: Film tickets help cops nab killers (Episode 291 on September 7, 2013)

The Inside Story

From a rundown movie theatre to a red-light district, then off to a murder suspect’s hometown, and back to a country bar at Nagpada -- Wadala police went on a month-long chase after some assassins with just two movie tickets in its pocket in the form of evidence. A few pegs down, one of the inebriated killers eventually confessed to cops, and named his accomplices, one of whom also arrested.

Wadala police had got a call about an unidentified body in Cotton Godown at Bombay Port Trust railway line near Reay Road station around 10 pm on June 3. “We searched the body, which was of a 40-year-old male, and found two movie tickets of Nishad theatre, Nagpada,” said senior inspector of Wadala police station Pandurang Ingule.

In the net: Shrihari Balani and Suraj Rushidev have been arrested by Wadala police for the murder of Sikander Khan (above), whose body was found near Reay Road station last month

Cops then approached the manager of the hall to get details about the tickets and find out if he had any CCTV footage of the people purchasing them. “The manager told us the patrons of the theatre are usually labourers, who come there with prostitutes from the adjacent Madanpura, Grant Road areas,” said Shakir Patel, sub-inspector of Wadala police station.

Police then made around 3,500 copies of a photograph of the victim and circulated them among sex workers in the vicinity. Around ten constables were deployed for this exercise and on the seventh day a prostitute identified the victim as a plumber named Khan, who used to come to her with a friend Anurud Ali, hailing from her native Murshidabad district in West Bengal.

“We then picked up Anurud from Murshidabad with the help of the sex worker. He told us that he and Khan used to work as plumbers on construction sites, but never at the same place for more than two to three days. But Anurudh told us that he had seen the victim a few days before the murder with a plumber who had a broken leg,” said Ingule.

Anurud also told the police that the person he had seen with Khan used to visit Royal country bar in Nagpada every evening. Cops set a trap, and the man in question confessed to the crime after downing a few glasses of liquor and some chicken biryani.

Here’s what happened. On June 3, Shrihari Balani alias Munna, Suraj Rushidev alias Batla, Mohammad Ansari and Sikander Khan were having a few drinks at the bar. “Sikander Khan, the victim, paid the bill and in the process revealed to the others that he had around Rs 3,000 cash in his pockets. The quartet later decided to go for dinner to Wadala. They alighted at Rey road station and stabbed Khan to death at an isolated place,” said Patel.

Cops have arrested Balani and Rushidev, and are searching for Ansari. Balani takes contracts from builders for plumbing work at sites and the others worked under him. But Sikander Khan was insubordinate and even abused him on occasions. So, the three decided to kill him and also pick up the Rs 3,000 in cash.

While Balani and Khan hail from Uttar Pradesh, Rushidev is from Bihar.
