Crime Patrol: 3 arrested for murder (Episode 714, 715 on 24th, 25th Sep, 2016)

The Haridwar police today arrested three persons, including a retired policeman and his daughter, for allegedly murdering a physiotherapist.

The victim’s body was found burnt in his car at Ranipur in Haridwar district a few days ago. The deceased had been identified as Anil Tomar.

Haridwar SSP Rajeev Swaroop said several police teams were formed to crack the case. The main accused, who hatched the conspiracy, was retired policeman Junmed Singh. He, along with his servant Ravipal and daughter Durgesh, allegedly murdered Tomar and burnt his body.

The police investigation revealed that Tomar had visited Singh’s restaurant before his murder. The duo had a heated argument over a petty issue. Later, Tomar was murdered. The accused burnt his body to hide his identity.

Crime Patrol: Bengaluru: Techie puts up bike for sale online, poisoned by ‘buyer’ (Episode 713 on 23rd September, 2016)

The police have arrested Karthik Daulath, a 30-year-old unemployed man, who had approached Haldar as a prospective buyer for a motorcycle that Haldar had put up for sale on an online forum.

The mysterious death of a 35-year-old software engineer from West Bengal in an upscale flat in Bengaluru last week has turned out to be a murder case, according to police.

The body of Sohan Haldar, an engineer working with tech firm ATOS India, was found in his apartment on August 5 by his colleagues after he did not turn up for work for three days. The police initially suspected that he died of natural causes since there was no injury mark on his body. The probe has now revealed that he died of cyanide poisoning.

The police have arrested Karthik Daulath, a 30-year-old unemployed man, who had approached Haldar as a prospective buyer for a motorcycle that Haldar had put up for sale on an online forum.

The police got on the trail of Daulath after it was found that Haldar’s wallet and motorcycle were missing, and his ATM cards were being used to draw money. They examined Haldar’s call records prior to his murder and the CCTV footage from his apartment block. This led the probe team to Daulath, a resident of north Bengaluru and a telecommunications engineering graduate, said DCP (South-East) M B Boralingaiah.

According to the police, Haldar had posted an advertisement on the online forum second-to-none.in on July 27 for the sale of his KTM Duke motorcycle. On August 1, Daulath got in touch with Haldar, saying he wanted to buy the motorcycle.

Daulath allegedly reached Haldar’s flat on August 3 around 2 pm and, after discussing the sale of the bike, the two had a drink. Daulath allegedly mixed cyanide in Haldar’s drink.

After Haldar died, Daulath allegedly took away his wallet, ATM cards and fled with the motorcycle. He found the ATM pin of the cards in Haldar’s wallet and withdrew Rs 27,000 the same day, the police said.

During the investigation, the police found that Daulath called Haldar regularly from August 1 to the day of the murder on August 3. The CCTV footage at the apartment block showed Daulath’s entry on August 3. He was again spotted on CCTV footage of ATM kiosks where he used Haldar’s ATM cards to withdraw money. He was arrested from his home in Rajajinagar.

Daulath was earlier caught red-handed stealing a gold chain from a jewellery shop. He had also attempted to rob a bank in the area, the police said.

Kalyan rape, murder case: Residents grill up after spate of crimes

22 of the 28 families in the building where the 22-yr-old was killed have gone
to their native place; 3 other cases of assault and a murder were registered in
April in the area

A surge in the number of crimes in and around Sai Dham residential complex in
Kalyan, residents are a rattled lot. The most recent in the list of crimes was
the gruesome rape and murder of a 22-year-old woman on April 14.

When mid-day visited the complex yesterday, which has six wings, we found that
in the B-wing, where the victim lived, 22 families out of 28 had left for their
native place to remain safe.

“Since the incident, most of the residents were feeling unsafe, and went to
their native place for some days. And those of us who stayed back have started
guarding the building from 1-6 am,” said Sarvesh Pathak (34), a resident of the
complex who works at a pharmaceutical firm.

The residents have also started installing CCTVs and grills in their balconies
to keep themselves safe. Jai Lalwani (35), an assistant manager with a private
firm staying on the seventh floor of the C-wing, told mid-day, “Since our flat
is on the top floor, robbers can easily enter our house through the open
balcony. We have been living here for over 3 years, but after the recent
incident we got grills installed in the balcony. Residents of over 10 flats have
got the grills installed within two days.”

Raghunath Putta (58), an Indian Navy officer residing in the complex, said,
“Most of those who left were tenants, but we who own the flats can’t as this is
all we have.” While talking about what happened on the day of the incident, he
said, “The robbers used the drainage pipeline to climb up and since a sliding
door of the balcony was open, they could get in.”

Krishna Mistry, another resident, in whose gallery the accused had hid after
committing the crime, said, “I was sleeping in the bedroom and at 5:30 am I
heard some noise. When I found them hiding in my gallery, I shooed them away
suing an iron rod.” Mistry’s father said the accused entered their flat through
a 2-ft gap in the grill.

Since no society has been formed owing to a dispute between the builder and the
local corporator, the residents pooled in money for the installation of 24 CCTVs
and iron fence around the complex.

Cop speak

Gulabrao Gore, senior police inspector, Khadakpada police station, said, “We
have arrested the four accused and three of them have been remanded to police
custody till April 24. While their leader, the minor, was sent to Bhiwandi
remand home. We have also increased the patrolling in the area.”

The Thane Crime Branch on Monday arrested four people identified as Nitin Wagh
(19), Nitesh alias Nitya Bhagwan Bhoir (20), Ravindra alias Ravi Wagh (20) and
their 16-year-old leader. The crime branch after arresting the gang in the
Kalyan case, found that they were involved in three more cases of assault and
murder in the same area in April itself.

Accused’s families

mid-day also met with the accused’s families in Milind Nagar and Gauripada road
in Khadakpada and found that the accused are school dropouts and known as the
Waghya Gang in their locality.

“I work as a domestic help at five houses to look after my two sons after my
husband died. I used to just sleep after a tiring day and did not get to
interact with my children. I knew he was doing some odd job as he used to give
some cash at home too. I had never thought that he would commit such a big
offence,” said Usha Bhoir, accused Nitin Bhoir’s mother.

The residents of this area, who are tribals, deal in country liquor and are also
addicted to it. “We were not aware of the crime until the cops came to our place
to inform us about his arrest. Initially, we couldn’t believe that he could be
involved in something as big as a murder as we thought he commits small thefts.
But when he came along with the police and showed them the robbed laptop that he
had hidden in a bag, we were shocked. We don’t even have the money to go to the
court or hire an advocate,” said Ramesh Waghe, the father of an accused.

>The Thane police on Tuesday arrested a 16-year-old and his three accomplices
near Kalyan for murdering and then raping a of a 22-year-old engineering
graduate at her residence on 14 April.
>

According to Mid Day, the accused, identified as Nitin Wagh (19), Nitesh alias
Nitya Bhagwan Bhoir (20) and Ravindra alias Ravi Wagh (20), and their
16-year-old leader, are tribals from Bandarpada in Kalyan.

The victim, who had recently appeared for the Maharashtra Public Service
Commission (MPSC) exam, was sleeping in the hall when the accused broke in
through the kitchen window. When she tried to raise an alarm, the 16-year-old
allegedly struck her on the head with a sword, a move that proved fatal for the
victim, reported Mumbai Mirror.

It is alleged that they even raped her corpse before decamping with the victim's
laptop, cellphone and jewellery.

The gang had begun their criminal lives with minor thefts, before moving on to
more serious crimes. The Asian Age reported that a few months ago, the
youngsters had formed a gang to snatch cellphones.

"Apparently, the 16-year-old boy became a gang leader by taking initiative while
breaking into houses or attacking victims. According to sources, he did not
think twice, which gave confidence to the other gang members," DNA quoted a
Thane crime branch officer as saying.

Even though the gang leader is a minor, the police want him to be tried as an
adult. According to The Times of India, Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh said
that they will request the court to try him as an adult because of the gravity
of the crime and the reign of terror the gang had unleashed in the Shahad-Kalyan
belt.

This is the first time since the amendment of Juvenile Justice (Care and
Protection of Children) Act in 2015 that the police are set to seek the trial of
a minor as an an adult.

Section 18 (3) of the amended law empowers the board to try a child as an adult
if he/she has committed a serious offence.

16-year-old gang head arrested in rape and murder case

>Now-a- days young children are seen involved into the bigger crimes and
ruining their life from early age. One such young gang leader of 16-year-old
was arrested by the Thane Crime Branch for rape and murder case. It is
demanded by the Crime Branch officers that they wanted the minor to be tried
as an adult as he had led this attack, as well as three more cases of assault
and murder. Read the whole story here.
>

It looked like the Thane Crime Branch hit a jackpot when they arrested a gang of
four criminals, which was headed by a 16-year-old boy, for allegedly raping and
murdering a 22-year-old girl and stealing valuables worth Rs 1.6 lakh in
Kalyan.

These four were also accused in three other recent cases in Thane and are
identified as Nitin Wagh (19), Nitesh alias Nitya Bhagwan Bhoir (20), Ravindra
alias Ravi Wagh (20) and their 16-year-old leader. The accused are tribals from
Bandarpada in Kalyan.

Two sharp weapons, an Android mobile phone, a laptop, and gold chain have been
taken into custody from the accused by the police.

The incident occurred when the gang broke into an apartment in Kalyan and killed
a 22-year-old girl after the minor gang member raped her on April 14. Param Bir
Singh, Commissioner of Police, Thane said that “The accused had walked away with
her mobile phone and jewelry worth Rs 1.6 lakh.” The victim had recently
appeared for MPSC (Maharashtra Public Service Commission) exams.

Nagesh Lohar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Thane Crime Branch said, “The
minor confessed that he had first assaulted the 22-year-old and then raped her.
We are waiting for the post-mortem reports.” As the minor was the mastermind,
cops said they will try that he be treated as an adult. Singh added, “We will
appeal in the juvenile justice court to treat the minor as an adult as he was
the main accused and mastermind of the gang.”

The victim used to live with her brother and sister-in-law. Her brother realized
something was wrong when he heard someone shouting ‘chor, chor’ (thief, thief)
from the flat below theirs.

As said by the police officials, “In his statement the brother told the police
that he and his wife were sleeping in the bedroom, while the victim was in the
hall. He found that his bedroom door was locked from outside. He phoned his
neighbors, who then broke into his apartment and opened the door. He then found
his sister lying dead in the hall. Her throat was slit and her clothes torn. She
was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead.” The cops are now
awaiting the victim’s medical reports, which will determine if she was raped or
not.

Mobile helped to arrest

The accused were traced by the police through the victim’s mobile phone which
they had stolen. “The accused did not know how to use the mobile phone. They
removed the victim’s SIM card and put their own on the phone. We could still
trace their location that helped us arrest them,” said Devidas Beware, senior
police inspector, Central Crime Detection Unit, Thane Crime Branch.

ACP Lohar added, “It was a newly formed gang that had the minor as its head.
They were committing crimes in want of a lavish life. Being from the same
vicinity, they knew the buildings and the bylanes.”

More three cases were registered against the gang at Khadakpada police
station.

The first one took place on April 8 when the gang allegedly assaulted two guards
name Deepak Kumar Mahut and Sanjay Yadav at a Siddivinayak developer’s complex
in Shahad. A case was registered under Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34
(Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian
Penal Code.

On late April, 9 nights, Deepak Bhoir, a guard at a Century Chemical office in
Shahad, was murdered and his body was buried in the compound. The case against
the accused was registered under Sections 302 (murder), 201 (Causing
disappearance of evidence of offense, or giving false information to screen
offender) and 34 of IPC.

On April 10, a resident of Mangeshi Paradise in Shahad, Sanjay Singh (28), when
tried to stop the accused from robbing a mercury bulb in the morning, the gang
assaulted him with a sharp weapon. This resulted in another case against them
under Sections 326 (Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or
means) and 34 of IPC.

The gang with the help of a 16yr old accused has committed many crimes which
cannot be taken lightly. The court will have to take it as a serious concern and
treat all the gang members with ultimate and harsh punishment. Well, it’s still
too shocking to believe that a minor boy has committed all these severe
crimes.

Crime Patrol: Four contract killers held for killing couple (Episode 707 on 9th September, 2016)

LUCKNOW: It could well be called a deal gone awry when an elderly man, who had hired contract killers to kill his wife, became the target of their wrath himself.

The assailants allegedly killed the man when he refused to pay the amount promised to them for killing his wife. The contract killers fled after killing both husband and wife and also looted the house for valuables.

The decomposed bodies of Kallu Neta, 65, and his second wife Firdaus Fatima, 45, were found locked inside their house in Kakori’s Barawankhurd village on Monday evening. The postmortem examination confirmed that the couple was smothered to death at least three days before recovery of the bodies. Police suspected involvement of an insider in the crime but the probe revealed startling facts after arrest of four contract killers in the case. According to cops, the contract killers revealed that Kallu himself had conspired to kill his wife as he suspected her involvement in some illegal activities.

“Musheer, Kallu Takla, Guddu and Saddam, all residents of Kakori have confessed their involvement in the double murder,” said A Satish Ganesh, inspector general (IG) of police Lucknow Zone.

According to a sub-inspector of Kakori police station, the accused alleged that Kallu Neta had promised to give them around ` 1 lakh for killing his wife. Neta also helped them enter the house in the night on March 25 when Firdaus Fatima had slept.

However, the accused got annoyed when Neta paid them only ` 40,000 after killing Fatima and asked to pay the remaining amount later. This led to a verbal duel and angry over the issue, the contract killers smothered Neta to death and fled after collecting some valuables from the house.

The cops, however, believe the accused were still concealing some crucial facts about the sequence of crime, as they were giving contradictory statements over reasons behind killing Neta. The SI said the assailants were further being quizzed to clarify the reason behind Neta’s murder.

Rajkot ‘stone-killer’ had sex with two of his victims: Police

Hitesh Dalpat Ramavat, the alleged serial killer who had murdered three persons in the city since April, had sex with two of the victims before stoning them to death, police said on Saturday.

Ramavat, 30, arrested from Jamnagar on Friday, had earned the sobriquet “stone-killer” as he killed the victims by hitting them on head with a stone.

Sagar Mewada, his first victim, was killed on April 20, followed by Pravin Barad (May 23) and Vallabh Rangani (June 2).

“We have found trace of semen on the bodies of two victims, which showed he had sexual intercourse with them before killing them,” city police commissioner Anupamsinh Gehlot said.

“He was planning to kill more people with the intention of robbing them,” said Gehlot.

“Around 12 years ago, an unidentified person sexually abused Ramavat and offered him money for it. Following this, he started indulging in homosexual activity, primarily for earning money,” Gehlot said at a press conference here.

“When he could not get enough money any longer this way, he started looting his targets and killed them.

“He informed the family members of the victim (using the victim’s mobile phone) about the murder,” the commissioner said, adding that (information) helped police in tracing his movements.

Ramavat did not suffer from any mental disorder and was “mentally fit,” Gehlot said.

He had confessed to bludgeoning three persons to death with stone and also to one unsuccessful murder attempt, Gehlot said.

“We had made a sketch of the suspect from eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage. We received some crucial information from public after we released that sketch. Our investigation also revealed that the culprit exhibited abnormal behaviour and mannerisms,” said Gehlot.

“Based on this information, we zeroed in on Ramavat. He is originally from Rajkot but was living in Jamnagar for the last five months. He visited Rajkot only to commit the murder and returned to Jamnagar. We are investigating why he committed the murders,” said the commissioner.

“The people of the city need not be afraid anymore as the culprit has been caught. This was one of the most difficult cases.... Our team’s hardwork paid off,” he said.

Further probe is on, Gehlot said.

Rajkot ‘stone killer’ held for 3 murders, labourer for fourth

The ‘stone killer’ used to drive an auto in Rajkot before fleeing to Jamnagar after committing the third murder on June 2.

Months after three men were bludgeoned to death after being sodomised in separate incidents, Rajkot police on Friday arrested an autorickshaw driver from Jamnagar in this connection.

They also arrested a labourer for allegedly killing a 58-year-old man in a similar way at a bus stop on the outskirts of the city.

A city crime branch team arrested Hitesh Ramavat from Bedeshwar area of Jamnagar, where he was living in rented accommodation.

According to the police, Ramavat was a homosexual. He used to drive an autorickshaw in Rajkot before fleeing to Jamnagar after committing the third murder on June 2.

“We had been trailing him for the last 24 hours. It was a massive operation. Around 1,280 policemen were put on the job in different teams. He was nabbed this evening from Jamnagar and has been brought to Rajkot,” city police commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot told mediapersons. He also said Ramavat confessed to the crimes.

The series of murders started on April 20 when Sagar Mevada, a tea seller, was hammered to death with a stone near Bhaktinagar railway station after a scuffle, police said. This was followed by an assault on May 23 near Saurashtra University on autorickshaw driver Pravin Barad (58), who succumbed to injuries at a city hospital a few days later.

Similarly, Vallabh Rangani (60) was killed on June 2 when he went out for a walk early morning. His body was found on Mavdi-Pal Road, with a heavy stone smeared with blood lying close to it.

Police had released CCTV footage and sketches of a man who was captured on camera walking alongside Rangani. Ramavat was on the run since that incident and a reward of Rs 2 lakh was announced for his capture, investigators said.

Earlier in the day, Sandip alias Suresh Mokariya, a casual labourer, was arrested for allegedly bludgeoning to death Dhirajlal Vikani, a former travel agent, at a bus stop in Shapar-Veraval area on the outskirts of the city.

According to the police, Vikani and Mokariya had a scuffle three nights before the murder over sleeping on a platform of the bus stand. The victim was unemployed and used to search for job in the industrial estate of Shapar-Veraval.

“Furious after the scuffle, Mokariya murdered Vikani with a heavy stone in the early hours of Thursday,” DIG (Rajkot range) D N Patel said.

“He is facing trial for a murder that he allegedly committed in Porbandar four years ago. Additionally, cases under the the Prohibition Act have been filed against him in Porbandar,” Patel said.

Crime Patrol: Hotel murders suspect may be a serial killer (Episode

KOLKATA: After one of the rare detections in a double murder case at a hotel in Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road near Park Street, the sleuths of anti-homicide squad say they might have a serial killer in their hands who not only made a profession by drugging and cheating people, but even "experimenting" with the various methods and tool that can be employed to commit the "perfect murder."

Investigators have come to know that the accused Ajay Pandit (24) had indeed also murdered his brother-in-law Pancham Pandit just days before June 30 when he murdered his wife Komal (22) and his sister-in-law's daughter Nandini Pandit (8). However, they are not sure where he committed it.

"Ajay had initially told us that Pancham had left for Delhi two months ago. Later, he changed his statement to inform us that he killed his brother-in-law in Ranchi. But now, in a new statement, he has claimed that he killed him at a hotel room in Burdwan," said a top investigating officer from the homicide squad of detective department.

The cops though face a peculiar problem even after the revelation that has led to questions if the victim indeed is Pancham as claimed by Ajay or a fourth person whose identity is yet to be established. "The photo of the victim taken by Burdwan police from the hotel room apparently does not match the face of Pancham. At least, that is what his family claims. Neither is the victim's family too eager to pursue the case. Yet, every detail provided by Ajay to us regarding this murder matches with the findings of Burdwan police. This includes the manner in which a piece of Gamchha was used to throttle him and the exact in which the victim was found in the room," said the officer.

Sources say the accused had set out for Kolkata along with Komal, Nandini and Pancham. They first reached Asansol where Komal and Nandini put up in a different hotel. The accused drugged Pancham while sharing g a drink and killed him. The next morning, he claimed that Pancham had to return to Jasidih on important work and that it was important they reached Kolkata on time. They thus took a bus to Kolkata from Asansol.

Joint CP (crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh said that the accused had used a fake voter ID - just like Kolkata - to check in to the Burdwan hotel. "We have found that he was involved in at least 25 cases of drugging in which Ajay was involved. He is continuing to mislead us even after a week in our custody," said Ghosh.

The cops said the accused Ajay has claimed that he was "inspired" by south Indian films. "He claimed that he was a fan of B-grade south Indian movies. It was there that he got the idea of electrocuting his victims," said a senior officer.

Police said that they are yet to give clean chit to Ajay's sister-in-law Pratima in the double murder. "Our team will be going back to Jasidih to question Pratima. We will ask her what she has done to try and trace her husband who has been missing for the past two months," said an officer.

Though a Patna resident, he married Komal thinking that he would get a part of the property. "But he came to know that it was his sister-in-law Pratima who was getting the king's share as she was the elder one. It was then that he stuck an illicit relationship with Pratima claiming he was in love with her," said a source. Cops say Pratima's brother Pancham was asked to join his family in Jasidih but then he disappeared mysteriously around the month of April. Sources said the accused had also drawn up elaborate arrangements to murder even Komal for which "preparations" was at an advanced stage.

SMS helped crack hotel murders in Kolkata

KOLKATA: The solving of the hotel double murder is exactly the kind of crime detection that once made Kolkata Police' s detective department the stuff of legend.

Police did not have a shred of evidence to begin with. The killer — named by police as Ajay Pandit — had meticulously wiped all his traces from the hotel room where a woman and a child were found drugged and electrocuted. The identify proof he had given during check-in turned out to be fake. There was nothing to identify him, or the victims.

All police had was a hunch that the killer was an electrician — from the way he tied up both victims with copper wire to create a ' perfect circuit' . Police took it as a challenge. A team of 50 crack investigators from the DD and Park Street Police was assembled. The fake voter ID, which seemed like a dead end, gave the first clue. Park Street police tracked down the original owner, Sambhu Kumar Gupta, in Bihar. DC-south Murlidhar personally spoke with him. Gupta said that someone had lured him to Jasadih on May 17, promising a better job, but drugged him and stole his mobile phone and voter ID.

" When Murlidhar asked him to identity him from the hotel CCTV, he picked out the attacker. It became clear the attacker and the killer were the same man," said joint CP-crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh. Police started tracking the number from where the call was made to Gupta. " Surveillance revealed that the caller was using 26 SIM cards, each belonging to people who were drugged in trains or hotels. We went to Jamui, Jasadih, Nalanda, Jhajja and Patna, but ended up in blind alleys," said an officer.

The big break came on Thursday morning. A DTH installation message landed on Pandit's mobile, giving cops a location — Jasadih. Police realized that it was the same number to which a call had been made from Kolkata two months ago — it was a landlord on Hospital Road asking for his rent.

Police rushed to the DTH shop in Jasadih. The owner turned out to be a Bengali and he was eager to help. He helped identify Pandit's rented flat. The double-murder suspect was stunned when police cuffed him, say sources.

Pandit's interrogation has revealed that he married Komal six months ago but fell in love with her elder sister Pratima - the mother of little Nandini, who was murdered, and an infant.

Two months later, he moved both his wife and sister-in-law from Jamui to Jasidih. His brother-in-law accompanied them but went missing two months ago. Ajay claims he is in Delhi but there is yet no proof of this.

On June 30, Ajay told Pratima that he would take Komal and Nandini on a trip to Kolkata. They came by bus and checked into a hotel. Ajay has told police that he got the idea of the murder plot from a south Indian movie. He returned to Jasidih, believing he wouldn't be caught. " We are ascertaining the exact role of Pratima in the murders," said Ghosh. Police say Pandit was the ringleader of a gang that drugged and robbed train passengers and tourists.
