Police have unravelled a tangled mystery of two young belly dancers from Uzbekistan ending up dead within days of each other, stuffed in suitcases that were then dumped in far-flung corners of two Indian states and set on fire to cover up one man’s bloody tracks.



The key accused, Gagan, murdered and disposed of 22-year-old Shakhnoza Shukurova two months ago and adopted the same modus operandi about ten days later to eliminate 25-year-old Naaz who was his accomplice in the first crime, Delhi Police officials said.



Gagan was arrested this week, as reported by HT, after Shakhnoza’s charred remains found in a Haryana village were finally identified, revealing a gruesome murder with a whiff of money dispute, professional rivalry and prostitution.



Authorities say Naaz owed Shakhnoza Rs 8 lakh and used Gagan to abduct and murder her on the night of September 24, then disposed of the body in Haryana’s Sonepat district by packing it in a suitcase and burning it.



After police spent days searching for Naaz to arrest her, sources said Gagan revealed during questioning on Thursday that on November 5 he got her drunk, murdered her and got rid of the body in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district by mirroring the first crime to which she was the sole witness.



While some reports have suggested the two women were part of a high-profile sex racket, police have not made any comments on the issue.



When authorities began inquiring about Shakhnoza and even reached Naaz’s residence, Gagan got worried that she could confess and lead the police to him.



“Gagan reportedly took Naaz out on the pretext of a party and then killed her using the same modus operandi he used to murder Shakhnoza,” said an official. “He drove her to Uttar Pradesh and killed her on the way. He then stuffed her body in a bag and set it on fire in a field in Hapur. The local police had registered a case after finding the body.”

Killer of Uzbek women was a tough nut to crack, misled cops



Gagan (40), the man who allegedly murdered 22-year-old belly dancer Shakhnoza Shukurova and then her friend Naaz in a similar fashion, is said to have been craftily withholding information and misleading police.



“He has a lot to tell. He just waits for the right time. There is a lot more to this case. He is very tough,” a source said. For five days during interrogation, Gagan did not divulge any information about Naaz’s killing and let the police believe that she is absconding. It was only during a tough round of questioning that Gagan revealed that he got Naaz drunk and then murdered her. He then stuffed her body in a suitcase, drove it to Hapur and then set it afire in a field on November 5 as she was the only witness in Shakhnoza’s murder and “very easy to break”. He feared that once questioned she would easily break down and divulge all facts.



Once the police started to enquire about Naaz, Gagan reportedly planned to eliminate her and let the police believe that she is absconding. On the night of November 5, he called Naaz over on the pretext of having a party and discussing a business deal. He then served her hard liquor and even mixed some drug in her drinks. He waited for her to get completely drunk and after she was semi conscious, he asked her to come with him for a drive. The duo then hit the highway and drove towards UP.



“Gagan took her for a drive and allegedly killed her on the way. He then stuffed Naaz’s body in a suitcase in the same fashion as he did with Shakhnoza to dispose of her body, and then set it on fire in a field near Sambhavali. He waited for the body to at least burn partially so that it is not recognisable and then left the place,” a police source said.



Gagan then reportedly got his car to Khirki Extension in Malviya Nagar and consumed beer. To get rid of the car till the investigation in the matter is on, he parked it at one spot in a crowded lane and told the neighbours that he is going out of station and will take it once he returns. “We recovered the car from Malviya Nagar in which mobile parts, a bottle of beer and some clothes were recovered. It appears that Gagan broke his phone, damaged the SIM and the IEMI number on the phone so that his location on the night of September 24 and November 5 could not be traced,” police said.



Sources said, Gagan even told the police that he did not intend to kill Shakhnoza and had called her to sort out issues between her and Naaz. He told the police that he had just gagged Shakhnoza and she died accidentally. “He initially maintained that he was trying to convince Shakhnoza to return Naaz’s passport that she had kept with her as security deposit and would not return it until Naaz gave her Rs 8 lakh that she owed her. However, Naaz wanted to go back to Uzbekistan to see her parents and Shakhnoza was not giving her the passport. He said that he had just gagged Shakhnoza but she died accidentally but later admitted that they called her with an intention to eliminate her,” police said.

Uzbekistan belly dancer’s murder mystery solved



Police arrested a man on Monday who allegedly murdered a young belly dancer from Uzbekistan, stuffed her body in a suitcase and set it on fire at a remote village in Haryana two months ago.

Two days after 22-year-old Shakhunoza Shukurova went missing, Haryana police recovered the partially charred body and registered a case of murder even as the victim’s mother was frantically searching for her in Delhi and pleading with authorities. The body was identified only on Monday afternoon.



Shakhunoza was allegedly abducted on September 24 and driven to Haryana by the main accused, Gagan, and Naaz, who’s also from Uzbekistan and was a friend of the victim.

“Gagan narrated the entire episode during questioning of how Naaz and he first called Shakhunoza on the pretext of settling a monetary dispute and then took her to Haryana,” said a senior police officer. “He confessed that they strangled her to death and then put her body in a big suitcase. They then started searching for an appropriate place to get rid of the body and reached Samalkha (town).”



They dumped the suitcase in a field behind the residence of a local politician at Karhans village near Samalkha and then set the bag on fire, police said.



“On the basis of the complaint filed by Shakhunoza’s driver, we registered a case of kidnapping and called Naaz and Gagan for questioning,” an officer said. “Following Gagan’s confession, a team was sent to Samalkha to inspect the spot where the body was burnt.”



However, Delhi police officials discovered their Haryana counterparts had cremated the body after registering a case and a post-mortem examination.

They have now picked up circumstantial evidence from the spot and sent it for forensic examination.



“The DNA samples of her mother will now be matched with the samples lifted from the spot. Gagan has been arrested and we are looking for Naaz who is absconding,” said another officer.

Childless couple hatches plan to steal three-month-old after mother refuses to give up the daughter for adoption



On Friday, the Deonar police arrested three accused—identified as Wahid Ali Shaikh, 30, Jishan Khan, 25, and Mobin Qureshi, 42—for allegedly kidnapping a three-month-old girl from Vile Parle last month.



The incident

One of the accused, Mobin, knew 19-year-old Soni Salman Shaikh, the mother of the three-month-old kidnapped girl Falak, as they were both scrap dealers. When he found out that Wahid Shaikh and his wife Shehnaz wanted to adopt a baby, he told them about a baby in his vicinity.



On February 13, Shenaz—who is still absconding — went to Soni’s house in Dr Zakir Huss-ain Nagar, Govandi and asked her whether she would give up her daughter for adoption.

When Soni refused, the trio, along with Khan, hatched a plan to steal the baby. A source, on condition of anonymity said that Wahid and Shehnaz decided to steal the baby as they had been unable to conceive for the past 15 years. On February 17, Shehnaz visited Soni again and told her about a man who wanted to marry her. Soni, who was living with her grandmother as her estranged husband was an alcoholic, agreed to go along with her daughter to Haji Ali.



Here Jishan joined them. Soni assumed he was the one who wanted to marry her, and they went to Haji Ali, where they offered prayers and ate at a nearby stall, after which they took a train to Vile Parle station from Mahalak-shmi. A rickshaw driver came to pick them at this point and Soni suspected something was fishy when they gave her Rs 100 to buy water. When she returned to the spot, the trio had driven away with Falak.



Soni lodged a complaint at Vile Parle police station, which was transferred to Deonar police station. Assistant police Inspector Anil Gaikwad said, “Quereshi led us to Jishan and Wahid. When our team went to arrest Wahid in Kherani Road in Saki Naka, they found Falak with him. Wahid had driven the rickshaw in which they kidnapped her.



The CCTV footage at Mahalakshmi station shows Soni, Jishan and Shehnaz taking a train.” A case has been registered under Indian Penal Code Sections 363 and 34. They were presented in Holiday court yesterday and taken into police custody.

NEW DELHI: An American tourist was allegedly gang-raped by a truck driver and two of his accomplices in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, police said Tuesday.



"The 30-year-old was raped by men in a truck on Monday night. They offered her a lift and she accepted it," police inspector Abhimanyu Kumar told AFP.



The incident took place in Manali, a tourist destination 500 kilometres (300 miles) from the capital New Delhi.



Kumar said the medical tests have confirmed that the tourist was raped and police were hunting for the accused men.



"The woman cannot remember the number plate of the truck and she could not understand what the accused were talking about. They drove the truck to an isolated spot and raped her for nearly one hour," he said.



Kumar said every truck driver in Manali had been ordered to report at the local police station as part of the investigation.



On Monday, police in eastern India arrested a local businessman for allegedly drugging and raping an Irish charity worker after her birthday party.



A survey by a trade body released earlier this year found that the number of foreign women tourists visiting India had dropped by 35 percent following several sex attacks that have made global headlines.



The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India reported earlier this year that female tourist arrivals had fallen after the fatal gang-rape of a 23-year-old Indian student by six men on a bus in New Delhi in December.



The gang-rape brought simmering anger about endemic sex crimes in the country to the surface and led to sometimes violent protests in cities across the country.



A Swiss cyclist was gang-raped in central state of Madhya Pradesh in March, while a South Korean tourist was allegedly drugged and raped in the same state in January by the son of the owner of a hotel where she was staying.

MEERUT: A class 12 student was allegedly kidnapped and later killed by his school friends in Shastri Nagar area here, police said today.



Moinuddin, a student of K L International Public School, was kidnapped on February 20 by his friends Vishal, Rahul and their associates, DIG police J N Singh said.



Later, the accused called the victim's father and demanded Rs. 50 lakhs ransom, he said.



The shocking incident came to light when one of the kidnappers, Rahul Agarwal, committed suicide on Friday after being interrogated by the police.



The suicide note recovered from him revealed the involvement of the main accused Vishal, Singh said.



Vishal confessed to his crime after being interrogated and later the victim's body was recovered from the nearby forest of Hastinapur, he said.



The police is trying to nab the other friends involved in the crime as revealed by Vishal, he said.



It is suspected that the main reason behind the kidnapping and murder was personal enmity rather than ransom money, the police said.



In another incident, a school boy, Akshay, a resident of Saket here was kidnapped and killed by his friends, police said.

फर्ज कीजिए कि कोई कत्ल होने वाला है और कातिल कत्ल करने अपने शिकार के पास पहुंच जाता है. इसके बाद वो सबसे पहले अपने शिकार को खुद उसी के कत्ल का तरीका बताता है. इतना ही नहीं कत्ल होने से पहले वो बाकायदा उसी से उसके कत्ल का वैसा ही रिहर्सल कराता है और कमाल ये कि कत्ल होने वाला खुशी-खुशी वो सब कुछ करता जाता है जो उसे कातिल करने को कहता है. आखिर में कातिल के बिना हाथ लगाए सचमुच उसका कत्ल हो जाता है.
इस तरह के हैरतअंगेज कत्‍ल को यूपी के सपा नेता सुधीर यादव ने अंजाम दिया है. सुधीर यूपी की सत्ताधारी पार्टी सपा का प्रदेश सचिव है. सुधीर की पत्‍नी की लाश फंदे से लटकी है, उसी के घर में नीचे स्टूल जमीन पर गिरा हुआ है, लोग रो-बिलख भी रहे हैं. ये मामला खुदकुशी का नहीं बल्कि सीधे कत्ल का है. आप कहेंगे वो कैसे? तो सुनिए अपने गले में फंदा कस कर मौत को गले लगाने का काम बेशक इस महिला ने खुद किया हो, लेकिन ये मौत उसकी मर्ज़ी से नहीं, बल्कि किसी और के कहने पर हुई है. यानी फंदा इसने खुद कसा, स्टूल पर खुद चढ़ी, फिर स्टूल को भी खुदही धक्का देकर गिराया. मगर ये सब इसने मरने के लिए नहीं किया था, बल्कि जीने के लिए किया.

 कहानी कानपुर शहर की है और इस कहानी के चार किरदार हैं. एक नेता, दूसरी उसकी बीवी, तीसरी प्रेमिका और चौथा एक तांत्रिक. एक तरफ बीवी जहां अपने शौहर की माशूका को मात देकर पति का प्यार दोबारा हासिल करना चाहती थी. वहीं, माशूका अपने आशिक की बीवी को ही रास्ते से हटाना चाहती थी. दोनों एक-दूसरे की साजिश से पूरी तरह अनजान थे और इसी अनजाने में शुरू होती है इस हैरतअंगेज कत्ल की साजिश की शुरुआत.

दुनिया के इस सबसे अजीब मर्डर मिस्ट्री की बुनियाद एक प्रेम त्रिकोण यानी लव ट्रायंगल के ऊपर रखी गई. पुलिस की मानें तो सुधीर की मुलाकात अपने ही मोहल्ले में रहनेवाली बैंक ऑफिसर रूबी से कोई छह साल पहले हुई थी, लेकिन जल्द ही ये औपचारिक मुलाकात, गहरी दोस्ती फिर मुहब्बत में तब्दील हो गई. अब नेताजी की आंखों पर पर्दा पड़ चुका था. वो घर में अपनी बीवी बीना के साथ कम और माशूका रूबी के साथ ही ज़्यादा वक़्त गुजारने लगे.

कहते हैं इश्क और मुश्क छिपाए नहीं छिपते- नेताजी के साथ भी यही हुआ. अपने शौहर के इश्क के चर्चे दुनियावालों की जुबान से होती हुई सुधीर की पत्नी बीना तक भी पहुंची और फिर जैसा कि आमतौर पर होता है. बीना और सुधीर के बीच रूबी को लेकर झगड़ों की शुरुआत हो गई. ये मर्ज की दवा एक ही थी, वो ये कि सुधीर अपनी माशूका रूबी से किनारा कर लें, लेकिन ना तो सुधीर को ये बात मंज़ूर थी और ना ही रूबी को. लिहाजा, जैसे-जैसे वक़्त गुजरा तीनों के बीच तनाव भी लगातार बढ़ता रहा और फिर इसके बाद एक रोज सुधीर की माशूका रूबी ने जो साज़िश रची, वो बेहद ख़ौफ़नाक थी.

रूबी ने बीना को रास्ते से हटाने के लिए काले इल्म के माहिर एक तांत्रिक का दामन थामा, जिसकी शहर में अच्छी पूछ थी. ये तांत्रिक था, बाबा अकबर शाह. बाबा अकबर शाम को अब रूबी की सूरत में सोने का अंडा देनेवाली मुर्गी मिल चुकी थी. रूबी अक्सर उसके पास अपनी फरियाद लेकर पहुंचती और बाबा हर बार उसे तंत्र-मंत्र के सहारे बीना का काम तमाम करवा देने का झांसा देकर मोटी रकम वसूल लेता, लेकिन जब वक़्त ज़रूरत से ज़्यादा लंबा हो गया, तो रूबी ने अकबर शाह पर दबाव बनाना शुरू कर दिया और तब अंत में अकबर शाह ने रूबी से उसके आशिक की बीवी यानी बीना के कत्ल के लिए चालीस हज़ार रुपये की सुपारी उठा ली.

अब बाबा ने अपने सबसे भरोसेमंद चेले मृदुल नाम के और तांत्रिक को बीना को ठिकाने लगाने का काम सौंपा, लेकिन इसके लिए तांत्रिक मृदुल को बीना के घर दाखिल होना था. उसे भरोसे में लेना था और यहीं इस कत्ल का असली प्लाट तैयार हुआ. अब रूबी अपने आशिक सुधीर से उसके घर की हर बारीक से बारीक बातें पूछने और समझने लगी. मसलन, ये कि घर में किस रोज क्या पका, क्या खाया, क्या पहना, किस बात पर लड़ाई हुई, कौन आया, कौन गया. वगैरह-वगैरह.



इधर, सुधीर ये बातें रूबी को बताता और उधर रूबी सारी बातें मृदुल को, लेकिन तांत्रिक मृदुल ने इन्हीं छोटी-छोटी बातों के सहारे सुधीर की पत्नी बीना के दिमाग पर अपनी ऐसी छाप छोड़ी कि बिना बिल्कुल उसकी दीवानी हो कर रह गई. अब तांत्रिक अक्सर बीना के घर आने लगा. उसे उसी के पति से पता चली बातें बताने लगा और फिर इन्हीं बातों की बदौलत अपने तंत्रशक्ति का अहसास करवाने लगा, लेकिन इसके बाद उसने बीना को जैसे अपने इशारे पर नाचने को मजबूर कर दिया.



दरअसल, उसने बीना से कहा था कि वो अपनी तांत्रिक शक्तियों की बदौलत उसके पति सुधीर को रूबी के चंगुल से वापस खींच लाएगा. सुधीर फिर से उससे पहले की तरह प्यार करने लगेगा, लेकिन इसके बाद जो कुछ हुआ, वो किसी ने नहीं सोचा था.



बीवी के कत्ल की सुपारी निकल चुकी थी, कातिल शिकार के पास पहुंच चुका था. फिर वो वक्त भी आया, जब कातिल ने अपने शिकार से उसके कत्ल का रिहर्सल करवाया. रिहर्सल कातिल के हिसाब से ही पूरा हुआ. अब बस रिहर्सल को हकीकत को बदलना था और उसके लिए फाइनल टेक लेना था. फाइनल टेक यानी मर्डर. तांत्रिक मृदुल का अब सुधीर की गैरमौजूदगी में अक्सर बीना के पास आना जाना शुरू हो चुका था. अपने पति का प्यार वापस पाने के इरादे से बीना तब-तब मृदुल को अपने पास बुलाती, जब-जब सुधीर घर में नहीं होते और मौके का फायदा उठाकर मृदुल ने बीना के घर तंत्र-मंत्र का वो जाल-बट्टा फैलाया, जो लगातार बढ़ता ही जा रहा था.



मृदुल को अपने गुरु यानी बड़े तांत्रिक बाबा अकबर शाह से पहले ही बीना को रास्ते से हटाने का हुक्म मिल चुका था और मृदुल ऐसी तरकीब निकालने में लगा था, जिससे सांप भी मर जाए और लाठी भी ना टूटे और आख़िरकार उसके दिमाग में वो तरकीब भी आ ही गई.



अब मृदुल ने सुधीर के दिमाग में रूबी का असर कम करने के नाम पर बीना को तंत्र-मंत्र के लिए कहा. उसने तांत्रिक क्रियाओं के नाम पर कई बार बीना को गले में फंदा डाल कर स्टूल के सहारे खड़े होने को कहा और जब-जब बीना फंदा डाल कर खड़ी होती, वो बीना को स्टूल धकेल कर गिरा देने का हुक्म देता. मृदुल पर बीना को भरोसा हो चुका था. जो हर बार अपने पैरों से स्टूल गिरानेवाली बीना को थाम कर उसकी जान बचा लेता. इस तरह मृदुल बीना के कत्ल का रिहर्सल कर रहा था और बीना इसे तांत्रिक क्रिया समझ रही थी, लेकिन मृदुल के दिमाग में कोई और ही साजिश चल रही थी और फिर एक दिन ऐसा हुआ, जिसके बारे में किसी ने भी नहीं सोचा था.



मृदुल एक रोज बीना के घर पहुंचा और तांत्रिक क्रिया के नाम पर उसने बीना को गले में फंदा डाल कर स्टूल पर चढ़ा दिया. बीना चढ़ी और रवायत के मुताबिक उसने अपने पैरों से स्टूल को नीचे भी गिरा दिया, लेकिन इस बार मृदुल ने उसे धोखा दे दिया. यानी स्टूल के गिरने पर जैसे ही बिना के गले में फंदा कसा, मृदुल पीछे हट गया. वो तड़पने लगी और चंद सेकेंड्स में ही ठंडी पड़ गई और इस तरह बीना का कत्ल हो चुका था. एक ऐसा कत्ल जो हुआ तो कातिल की आंखों के सामने, लेकिन कातिल ने मकतूल को हाथ तक नहीं लगाया.



पहली नजर में तो पुलिस ने भी इसे खुदकुशी का मामला ही समझा था, लेकिन जब तफ्तीश आगे बढ़ी और उसे सुधीर और रूबी के रिश्तों का पता चला, तो सारी कहानी साफ हो गई. दोनों के कॉल डिटेल्स पुलिस के लिए अहम सुराग साबित हुए और धीरे-धीरे रूबी और तांत्रिक और उनके चेलों की शक्ल में पांच लोग इस मामले में गिरफ्तार हो गए. हालांकि इस मामले में पुलिस ने फिलहाल बीना के शौहर यानी नेताजी सुधीर यादव को क्लीन चिट दे रखी है और इसे लेकर फिजा में कई सवाल भी हैं.

बंगाली बाबा ने झाड़फूंक के बहाने की महिला की हत्या

करीब 36 दिन पहले विवाहित महिला की आत्महत्या का खुलासा करते हुए पुलिस ने दावा किया है कि यह आत्महत्या नहीं बल्कि हत्या हैं और इस घटना को झाड़फूंक करने वाले बंगाली बाबा और उनके चेलों ने अंजाम दिया था।

वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधीक्षक के एस इमेनुएल ने बताया कि नौ जून 2014 को बर्रा इलाके में विवाहित महिला बीना यादव (35) की आत्महत्या का मामला सामने आया था। लड़की के घर वालों ने दहेज हत्या का मामला दर्ज करवाया था। पुलिस ने जब जांच की तो झाड़फूंक करने वाले बाबा, उसके चेले और एक महिला का नाम सामने आया।

उन्होंने बताया कि मृतका बीना के पति सुधीर सिंह यादव का एक बैंक में काम करने वाली महिला से प्रेम संबंध थे। इस पर उस महिला ने बीना को रास्ते से हटाने की योजना बनाई।

इसके लिए वह सबसे पहले झाड़फूंक करने वाले बंगाली बाबा शाकिर उर्फ अकबर शाह के पास गई। बाबा ने उस महिला से 25 हजार रुपए लिए और झाड़फूंक का नाटक करने लगा।
वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधीक्षक ने बताया कि इस बीच बाबा के यहां काम करने वाला एक युवक मृदल बाजपेई की उस महिला से मुलाकात हुई। उसने कहा कि वह बीना को रास्ते से हटा देगा और काम के बाद पैसा लेगा। मामला 40 हजार रुपए में तय हो गया।



एसएसपी ने बताया कि पिछले महीने 9 जून को मृदुल अपने दो अन्य सहयोगियों के साथ बीना के घर शाम को आया। मृदल ने बीना के साथ वह फांसी वाला खेल खेलना शुरू किया लेकिन जब फांसी का फंदा लगाने के बाद बीना ने स्टूल को लात मारी तो मृदल ने उसे नीचे से सहारा नहीं दिया और वह लटककर मर गई ।
एसएसपी ने बताया कि बीना की इस तरह हत्या कर दिए जाने के बाद बाद मृदल और उसके साथी घर से चले गए और घर के दरवाजे इस तरह से बंद किए जैसे कि वह अंदर से बीना द्वारा बंद किए हों। इसके बाद उस महिला ने बीना की मौत की खबर सुनकर उनसे वायदे के मुताबिक पैसे दे दिए।



पुलिस इसे आत्महत्या ही मान रही थी लेकिन जब दहेज हत्या का मामला दर्ज हुआ तो पुलिस ने जांच की और बीना के टेलीफोन के जांचे तो उसमें एक अंजान नंबर दिखा जिसकी जांच की गई तो वह नंबर मृदल बाजपेई का निकला।
पुलिस ने मृदल को पकड़कर उससे पूछताछ की तो उसके पीछे यह कहानी सामने आई। इस सिलसिले में पुलिस ने आज बाबा अकबर शाह बंगाली उर्फ शाकिर, मृदल बाजपेई, मनीष घूसिया, श्याम बाजपेई तथा उस महिला को गिरफ्तार कर लिया।

​​गुजरात के बोटाड जिला के देवालिया गांव में एक गर्भवती महिला की कहानी बेहद दर्दनाक है. करीब आठ महीने तक बलात्कार का शिकार होती रही ये महिला अब गर्भवती है. गर्भ में पल रहे बलात्कारियों के बच्चे को गिराना चाहती है. लेकिन गुजरात हाईकोर्ट ने उसे इस बात की इजाजत देने से इनकार कर दिया है.



​​गुजरात के बोटाड ज़िला के देवालिया गांव में कांसे और स्टील के बर्तनों से सजे कमरे में एक चारपाई पर चुपचाप लेटी हुई ये महिला सिर्फ रोजमर्रा के कामकाज निपटाने या अपनी आठ महीने की दर्दनाक कहानी पुलिस या​​ मीडिया वालों को सुनाने के लिए ही उठती हैं.



सामूहिक बलात्कार की शिकार 23 साल की यह युवती बताती हैं, 'उन्होंने करीब आठ महीने तक रोज मेरा बलात्कार किया. चार लोग तो नियमित थे, बाकी आते-जाते रहते थे. अगर मैं कुछ ऐसा करती जो उन्हें पसंद न आता तो वह उसे पीटते. मुझे रोने में भी डर लगता था.'



कभी एक खुश बेटी, बीवी और मां रही इस युवती के सात माह के गर्भ को गिराने की याचिका को पिछले हफ्ते गुजरात उच्च न्यायालय ने खारिज कर दिया. अब वह अपने मायके में ही रह रही है. उसके मां-पिता की नजरें भी उसी पर टिकी रहती हैं.



वह कहती हैं, 'यह मेरे बलात्कारियों का बच्चा है. मैं इसकी मां हूं लेकिन अगर यह बच्चा मेरे साथ रहेगा तो कोई भी मुझे और मेरे परिवार को स्वीकार नहीं करेगा. अदालत ने गर्भपात की इजाजत नहीं दी. मैं सरकार से प्रार्थना करती हूं कि वह इस बच्चे को अपने सरंक्षण में ले ले और किसी अनाथालय में दे दे.'



परिवार के अंदर बेचैनी साफ नजर आती है. पीड़िता अपने गर्भ में पल रहे बच्चे को त्यागने के विचार से शायद पूरी तरह सहमत नहीं है. बच्चे को अपने पास रखने के सवाल पर वह चुप हो जाती हैं और धीरे से अपनी मां की ओर देखती हैं. उनकी मां जवाब देती हैं, 'यह बच्चे को कैसे रख सकती है? अगर यह ऐसा करेगी तो समाज और गांव हमें बहिष्कृत कर देगा. मेरे दो और बच्चे हैं. मेरा 14 साल का लड़का कुंवारा रह जाएगा. कोई भी हमारी इज्जत नहीं करेगा.'



वो कहती हैं, 'यह मां है लेकिन बच्चा बलात्कारियों का है, हम उसे नहीं रख सकते.' जब मां यह कह रही थी तो पीड़िता एक कुर्सी पर सिर झुकाए और पल्ला ओढ़े बैठी हुई थीं. वह उस दहशत और सदमे के बारे में बात भी मुश्किल से ही कर पाती हैं. उन दिनों का जिक्र उसकी आंखों में आंसू ले आता है.



खरगोश का गोश्त खिलाते थे

अपने 18 महीने के बेटे को खेलता देखते हुए वह कहती हैं, 'रात को वह जंगल में खरगोश और काले हिरणों का शिकार करने जाते. दो लोग मेरे साथ रुक जाते और गलत काम (बलात्कार) करते. फिर उन दो की जगह दूसरे दो आ जाते. महीनों तक हर रात यही होता रहा.' पीड़िता के ससुरालवालों ने उसे घर में घुसने से रोका तो उसके पति भी घर छोड़कर साथ ही आ गए. वह कहती हैं, 'एक रात जब मेरे अपहरणकर्ताओं ने एक खरगोश को काटा तो उसके पेट में से दो नन्हें खरगोश निकले. मैं खुद को रोक नहीं पाई और तुरंत उनमें से एक को उठा लिया जिसने मेरी उंगलियां कुतरनी शुरू कर दीं. इससे मुझे अपने बच्चों की याद आ गई और मैंने रोना शुरू कर दिया.'



पुलिस को दी शिकायत में पीड़िता ने सात लोगों को नामजद किया है और बताया है कि वह उसे लगातार पीटते थे. बात करते हुए उसके हाथ और जबान कांपते हैं. वो कहती है, 'मुझे रोता देखकर एक को ग़ुस्सा आ गया और वो अपनी बंदूक से मुझे पीटने लगा जिसमें बाकी भी शामिल हो गए. उस घटना के बाद उन्होंने कुछ दिन तक मुझे भूखा रखा. मैंने खाना मांगा तो उन्होंने मुझे ख़रगोश का गोश्त दिया, जो मैं खा नहीं पाई.'



'बलात्कार नहीं लिव-इन संबंध'

पीड़िता के पति ने पिछले साल जुलाई में सूरत में अपनी पत्नी के लापता होने की पुलिस रिपोर्ट दर्ज करवाई थी. पीड़िता के अपहरण से पहले शहर में उनकी जिंदगी आराम से गुजर रही थी. पीड़िता के परिवार को उन्हें ढूंढने के लिए पुलिस और नेताओं के चक्कर काटने पड़े लेकिन कोई मदद नहीं मिली. अभियुक्त दाफर समुदाय से हैं जो गुजरात की खानाबदोश जाति है. पीड़िता गुजरात के देवी पूजक समुदाय की हैं.



सात नामजद अभियुक्तों में से पांच को गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया है. इस मामले में गुजरात पुलिस की भूमिका पर भी गंभीर सवाल उठे. पीड़िता की मां कहती हैं, 'उसके गायब होने के कुछ दिन बाद मुझे उसके अपहरणकर्ताओं के बारे में पता चला. मैंने पुलिस को बताया तो उन्होंने कहा कि वह अपनी मर्जी से उनके साथ रह रही है और उसने यह लिखकर दिया है कि उसके लिव-इन संबंध हैं. लेकिन कौन कैद रहने और बलात्कार किए जाने के लिए अपनी मर्जी से कागज पर दस्तखत करता है. पुलिस ने मेरी बात पर यकीन नहीं किया.'



लेकिन इस मामले के जांच अधिकारी पुलिस उपाध्यक्ष तेजस पटेल इससे अनभिज्ञता जताते हैं, 'पीड़िता या उसके परिवार के साथ इस तरह के व्यवहार के बारे में मुझे नहीं पता. हमने पांच अभियुक्तों को गिरफ्तार कर लिया है. एक अभियुक्त, गांव के सरपंच ने अपनी गिरफ्तारी के खिलाफ अदालत से स्टे ऑर्डर ले लिया है और एक फरार है.'



एफआईआर नहीं लिखी

लेकिन पीड़िता और उनके परिजन पुलिस पर गंभीर आरोप लगाते हैं. पीड़िता के पारिवारिक दोस्त सरदार सिंह मोरी कहते हैं, 'अपहर्ताओं के कब्जे से बच निकलने में कामयाब होने पर पीड़िता और उनकी मां घंटों तक जंगल में छुपे रहे, उसके बाद हिम्मत जुटाकर वह पुलिस के पास गए. लेकिन जैसी आशंका थी स्थानीय पुलिसकर्मियों ने शिकायत लिखने से इनकार कर दिया और फिर हमने महिला पुलिस हेल्पलाइन को फोन किया जिसके बाद न चाहते हुए भी हमारी शिकायत लिखी गई.'



पीड़िता को मेडिकल जांच के लिए एफआईआर के 48 घंटे बाद ले जाया गया. हालांकि मामले के कोर्ट में जाने और राष्ट्रीय अखबारों की सुर्खियां बनने के बाद गुजरात पुलिस के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों ने मामले का निरीक्षण शुरू किया.



इस मामले में पुलिस अधिकारियों की भूमिका को लेकर रोष का सामना कर रही गुजरात सरकार ने गुरुवार को पीड़िता को 20,000 रुपये की आर्थिक सहायता दी. उसके लिए अब बलात्कार और गर्भ में पल रहे बच्चे को पैदा करने की मुश्किल से ज्यादा बड़ी चुनौती है 'पवित्र' होने की कवायद को पार करना.

A woman who was gang raped for eight months in Gujarat, western India, is now not only pregnant as a result, but has been ordered to face "purification tests" by her community's local courts. The BBC's Ankur Jain reports on what this gruelling ritual will entail and why it is still endured.



The shy, softly spoken 23-year-old - who cannot be named for legal reasons - was living happily with her husband and two children in Surat when she was abducted last July and repeatedly gang raped by more than five men over several months.



She is now heavily pregnant and her petition for abortion was turned down by the Gujarat High Court because she was too advanced in her pregnancy.



Now, staying in a two-room house in Devaliya village, Ranpur Taluka, Gujarat, she spends her time with her two children. Her in-laws refuse to take her back and her husband has left his parents to be with her. But she spends all her time with the children, snuggling them and holding them tight.



And while her own parents are glad to have her back, they are concerned that the baby she is soon to give birth to will affect the rest of the family.



"I have two other children both unmarried. If she delivers the baby and keeps it then no one will marry them," explained her mother. "My 14-year-old son will get cast out. The only way out is that she will have to undergo the 'chokha thavani viddhi' (purification ritual) and whatever the community decides will be final."

The role of barley seeds



Such a ritual is limited to the villages of Gujarat's Devipujak community, to which the victim belongs.



The Devipujak group follows a strong caste and religious system and has its own community courts which decide on various matters including infidelity and rape.



It is not clear whether these hearings are condoned or condemned by the authorities, but they have never been investigated by the police.



An elder from the village, Odhabhai Devipujak, explained that a purification ritual is conducted by a tantric - a priest who practices black magic and believes in supernatural powers - and predates the existence of courts and police.



In the ritual, the tantric asks the girl several questions and then checks if she is telling the truth by taking a pinch of barley seeds from a bag and asking her to say whether the number of seeds in his hand are even-numbered or odd.



If the girl gets the answer wrong then the tantric assumes her answers have been lies.



She then has to repeat the process with a 10-kg stone on her head. She has to keep the stone on her head until the tantric is satisfied that she is telling the truth.



"Sometimes it takes months to purify as people lie initially but Goddess knows it all and finally they have to speak the truth," the elder said.

Cast out



"Once the girl is purified and passes the test no-one can point fingers or banish her and her family. But if the girl fails the test and Goddess says she is impure then she might get ostracised from the community," he said.



Sardarsinh Mori, a friend of the victim's family, said such tests were only carried out on women.



"Whenever a husband has doubt about his wife, or an unmarried girl is accused of an affair, to purify a woman and free her from the wrongdoings, a purification process is conducted. For men, the community courts conduct tests to check if they are telling lies but no purification is used," he explained.



The victim's husband, a cart-puller, said he would stand by her.



"I am going to be with her. I have two children and I can't marry again," he said.



The victim said part of her wanted to keep the unborn child, but her fate and the baby's was in the hands of 100-200 people taking part in the purification ritual.



"If I am wrong, the Goddess will tell them," she said.

Botad gangrape victim gives birth to child, govt to take care of newborn

THE Botad gang rape survivor gave birth to a healthy child at the Bhavnagar civil hospital on Wednesday. The rape survivor was earlier denied permission to terminate her pregnancy by the Gujarat High Court following which she gave birth to the child.



The 23-year-old victim was taken to Bhavanagar civil hospital on July 1. She was under medical care at the hospital for last one week.



A family member close to the victim said, “It was not easy for her at all and till the last minute of her delivery she wanted to get rid of this child. She broke down after delivery and told me that this is a child she doesn’t want to either hold in her hands nor call her own”.



After the victim is discharged from the hospital, she will be taken to Ranpur in Botad district where she lives with her husband, a cart puller and two children.



The victim who belongs to the Dafer community has to now undergo the process of Shuddhi to “clean herself from the sin”. According to the community’s traditional practices, the victim has to keep a 10 kilograms heavy stone on her head and stand at the village square.



This stone is removed from her head only after the community’s deity (Mataji) will indicate that she is now ‘clean’. If the victim cannot ‘pass’ this test to prove that the rape was committed on her without her consent, she and her family fears of even getting ostracized, her family members said.



The community observes this procedure only with women against whom they reportedly have suspicion of “having relationship with men before marriage” and those whose husbands have suspicion on them. The women are also made to wear a garland of shoes and while “giving this test”.



The Gujarat High Court in April this year had rejected a petition filed by the victim, who had sought permission to terminate her nearly seven-month pregnancy. The court told the victim “to bravely go ahead with the pregnancy and when time comes, deliver the child…” and also directed the state government to look after the mother and the child and not let the baby be abandoned.



Botad Deputy SP Tejas Patel said, “The child will be kept under observation at the hospital for 48 hours after which the child will be handed over to Botad Collector S K Pandya and his office”.



The victim had denied taking care of the child following which it was decided that the district government will take care of the child. The child is expected to be kept in the Shishu Gruh under the disrict government or a NGO who is willing to take care of the child.



As per the FIR lodged at the Ranpur police station in Botad district on March 16, the victim was allegedly abducted in July 2014 from outside her home and gangraped by seven men who kept her at different places for nine to 10 months. When the FIR was lodged she was already 24-week pregnant.



She moved a petition seeking abortion in a lower court which rejected her plea on the ground that provisions of Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act (MTPA) don’t permit abortion in case the pregnancy period exceeded 20 weeks. The victim had then moved the application to the HC.



SP Botad SK Gadhvi said, “We had provided her police protection of guards 24/7 after she filed a case. We had additionally appointed a woman police constable also as a liasoning officer because victim was pregnant and she could require help anytime. When we learnt that she could deliver any moment, we sent her to Bhavnagar civil hospital instead of hospitals in Botad to ensure she gets good medical attention”.

Anonymous caller tips police about the torture going on at posh Kanjurmarg flat for 2 weeks.



The police have booked a 34-yearold woman from Kanjurmarg for assaulting and abusing her nineyear-old stepdaughter. An anonymous caller tipped the cops about the plight of the girl, resulting in her rescue on Sunday night.



The minor, who was being allegedly tortured for the past two weeks, is currently in the custody of the Child Welfare Committee. At the time of going to press, the woman was recording her statement at the Parksite police station.



The child lost her mother in 2012. But trouble started after her father, a senior official in a nationalised bank, remarried four months ago. The family lives in posh Gundecha Height housing complex in Kanjurmarg (West).



"A caller who did not wish to be identified informed the Social Service Branch about the alleged ill-treatment of the child. Considering the seriousness the tip-off, a team from SSB visited the flat and rescued the girl. Two women constables took her into confidence before asking her to narrate the ordeal," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Enforcement) Pravin Patil.



The young girl, who has over half a dozen pinch marks on her body, has told the police that her stepmother would beat her with a cloth hanger every now and then. The girl has told the police that her father would do nothing to restrain her stepmother.



A neighbour said that the girl had gone to a birthday party with swollen lips. "When we asked her about the marks, she refused to provide any details. We would often hear the girl screaming, but didn't interfere as it was their personal matter."



The girl's paternal grandparents, who used to live with in the Kanjurmarg apartment, left for their hometown soon after their son's remarriage, said another neighbour. "They were fed up with their constant fights with the woman in the house."



On Monday, the girl recorded her statement before a magistrate and underwent a medical test. The police then handed her over to the Child Welfare Committee to ensure her safety. The stepmother has been booked under Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act. If convicted, she could jailed up to three years.



The cops are exploring if her father can be booked for abetment as he apparently didn't do anything to stop his abusive wife. On Monday, his flat was locked and he didn't respond to repeated calls and SMSes.

Praveen, after committing murder not only remained in the house but was also reportedly kept watching the police investigations throughout the day.



The city police arrested 23-year-old youth, Praveen, in connection with the triple murder he committed in the neighbourhood house in Kuvempu Nagar under A.P.M.C. Police Station limits in the early hours of Sunday, within 12 hours of the offence and resolved the mystery behind one of the most heinous and gruesome murder witnessed in this part of the country in recent years.



The accused was arrested at about 11 p.m. on Sunday on the basis of certain credible clues seized from the house of the deceased, Reena (37), wife of Rakesh Malagatti, son Aditya (12) and daughter Sahitya (5. In his confession to the police, the accused claimed to have murdered Reena to end a forced year-long affair. He killed the two children, as they woke up and saw their mother lying in a pool of blood and viewed them as potential eye witnesses, Police Commissioner S. Ravi said here on Monday.



Acting swiftly, four teams under the guidance of the commissioner himself, deputy commissioner of police Anupam Agarwal led by Assistant Commissioner of Police of Market Sub Division B.P. Hulsagund were formed, which started investing without wasting any time on evidences collected from the house of the deceased, leading to the arrest of Praveen. The forensic experts had also indicated of only one foot-print other than inmates of the house.



Praveen's confession



Quoting the confession made by the accused, Mr.Ravi said Praveen, son of an Ex-Serviceman Subramanya Bhat and who was pursuing his Charted Accountant course, was staying the backside of Malgatti’s house. He entered into an affair with Reena over an year ago and often spent time with her whenever her husband Rakesh was out of the city on business. She would call him in night and herself latched the door of a room provided to Harsha, a 17-year-old relative who was staying the family since April this year.



As Rakesh was away in Goa with his elder brother Rajesh, she called him at about 11-45 p.m. of Saturday and latched the door of Harsha’s (who was already asleep) room. They consumed liquor or two hours. He again came back at about 3 a.m. of Sunday and stressing to end the alleged forced relationship. As she was unwilling but insisted to continue, he lost his temper and in a rage of anger picked up a knife from kitchen and threatened to kill. As she was still adamant, he stabbed and killed her on the spot.



He then strangulated Aditya and Sahitya with a rope as they had woken up and saw their mother dead in a pool of blood. Thereafter, he hanged Aditya upside-down to a tap in a bucket of water in the bathroom and returned to his house.



Praveen, whose study room is on the first floor of his house in the backside of Malgatti’s house, divided by a very narrow gap of hardly 3 ft, easy to cross over without any difficulty. After crossing over during dark hours, he used a rope to climb to the terrace of Malgatti’s house and return using the same rope to avoid being noticed by neighbours while entering from the doors in the ground floor. Reena would keep the door of the terrace open and call her whenever her husband Rakesh was away on business tours.



After committing murder, not only he remained in his house but reportedly kept watching the police investigations throughout the day along with several other neighbours. He even interacted with a section of media.



His father, Subramanya Bhat, who was shocked and visibly pained with the happening said: “I was unaware of involvement of my son in the affair and murder, as he was pursuing CA we hardly go to his room on the first floor; we strongly condemn such a gruesome murder, but there should be proper investigation and the guilty must be punished and justice rendered to the bereaved family”.

Belagavi police nails triple murder accused within 12 hours



BELAGAVI: City police succeeded in nailing the accused of triple murder surfaced at Kuvempu Nagar on Sunday morning, within 12 hours of the incident. In his confession before police, accused narrated the brutal act of killing two school going children and a woman, whom with he has illicit affair.



Accused identified as Praveen Subramanya Bhat (23), resident of Sahyadri Nagar, studying chartered accountant (CA) in Gogte College of Commerce (GCC) here. Police took him to the custody at Sunday 11pm from his house based on clues. Accused had brutally killed Reena Rakesh Malgatti (37) and her children Sahitya (6) and Aditya (11) at the house in Kuvempu Nagar.



He had slit the throat of Reena by knife. Later, he drowned the eyewitnesses Sahitya and Aditya in the bucket water in bathroom. During his confession, accused Praveen Bhat told to the police that, both children looked him like his enemies at that moment, as they saw him while killing their mother, so he had no other option rather finishing them.



According to police sources, accused Praveen and victim Reena had illicit relation since past one year. As Praveen is the neighbour, he used to enter Reena's house by climbing the pipe and sometimes rope left by Reena, whenever her husband Rakesh was on out of station. Rakesh is a cloth merchant, used to remain outside home most of the days and returning late in night. Rakesh is basically from Ballari while Reena from Gujarat. Both loved and married 14 years ago.



During interrogation, accused said he was against the affair with Reena. She used to force and blackmailing him to continue the affair. She used to call him whenever her husband going out of station. He also said that he had frustrated following affair with her and her blackmailing. However, commissioner said it's just one side version and other side is yet to be investigated.



Commissioner S Ravi, said on the day of incident, accused entered Reena's house at 11.30pm by using rope. Before he came, Reena latched the room of Harsha, 17-year-old adopted boy from outside, who used to call her 'maami'. After spending some time along with Reena, accused returned back. Police commissioner said during interrogation, accused said that he had requested Reena to stop calling him henceforth but she ignored it. Therefore, he went again at 3am with making-up mind to finish the story once at all, which he did.



Case has been registered at APMC police station and case is booked against accused Praveen Bhat under sections 302 and 201 IPC. Commissioner said reward will be given to the officers worked on the case and succeeded in arrested accused.



Kendriya Vidyalaya announces holiday:



Kendriya Vidyalaya School-2 at Camp area announced holiday on Monday following the death of its student Aditya in the incident, who was studying in 5th class. School took sudden decision at the morning.
