KANPUR: The main accused identified as Rashid alias Zakir, son of Hazari and his wife Shakeela alias Bitta were arrested in the triple murder case reported from a saddlery unit in Macchliwala Hata in Gwaltoli on March 6. A country-made firearm, several cartridges and a sharp-edged weapon were recovered from them. The arrests were made near inter-state Jhakarkati bus terminus when they were trying to escape, senior superintendent of police Yashasvi Yadav said.

Three persons, including a middle-aged woman, were found murdered in a saddlery unit at Macchliwala Hata in Gwaltoli on Wednesday last.

The Gwaltoli police identified the deceased as Riyaz (27), Ibrahim (30) and their mother Zainab (50), all residents of Bahraich district. The factory owner Mohammad Kamran found the three bodies lying at the first floor of his unit.

Police sources said all three had their throats slit open. They also had injuries on hands.

According to police, Rashid was found missing. In his statement to the police, Kamran had stated that unlike other days, the main entrance of the unit was found locked, when other workers reached there to work. "When the workers informed Kamran, he came there with another set of keys and opened the door. They saw the bodies lying in a pool of blood," an investigating officer said.

During further investigations, the cops also found a six-year-old boy Saddam from the unit. The investigators ascertained the boy's relationship with Zainab and found that she and her sons, including Saddam, had come to settle scores with her son-in-law Rashid, who was absconding with his second wife Shakeela.

Rashid, a resident of Fakharpur area of Bahraich had married Zainab's daughter Kalimun. After being convicted on charges of murdering her in 1997 by a local court, he was on the run.
