Two headless bodies of a man and woman were found near the Nagar Sagar Dam in Udham Singh Nagar, about 270 km from Dehradun. Both bodies were naked. The private parts of the male had been smashed. The hands and legs of both had been chopped off, and it appeared like an attempt had been made to burn the torsos. While the man's torso was packed in polythene and discarded near the dam, the woman's was recovered from hedges nearby.
The couple's clothes were recovered separately, in a bag thrown nearby. The hands and legs that had been chopped off were packed in a separate polythene bag. The next day, September 9, about four km from the dam, the heads of the man and woman were found. The woman's head had been tonsured.
Police are yet to identify the woman who was killed, but suspect that she might be Gangwar's lover Nisha Sharma, also a resident of Bareilly, a nurse who worked in the same hospital.
Gangwar's father Balakram had lodged a complaint with Prem Nagar police that his son was set to return to Bareilly on September 6, but had gone missing. Police said the family of Gangwar identified the good-luck charm on his wrist, and found familiar marks on the leg. His mobile phone had been unreachable since August 26.
Local people have said that both Gangwar and his lover were already married, and had children from their previous marriage. They had entered into a live-in relationship, and had earlier been employed in a private hospital at Izzat Nagar. Six months ago, after their hospital shut after suffering losses, the two shifted to Banwasa in Champawat district of Uttarakhand, to take up work in a hospital there.
Gangwar's family were informed by local people in Banwasa that the two had gone missing after engaging in an ugly face-off with the doctor who had employed them.
Bareilly (city) SP Rajeev Malhotra said, "The bodies were recovered in Uttarakhand, so the ball is now in the court of Uttarakhand police, who are probing all angles."
SSP Ridhim Aggarwal of Udham Singh Nagar said, "This appears like a well-planned crime. The initial probe has shown that the mobile phones of the two were switched off since August 26." The police official said it was unclear why, if the couple were last seen on September 5, their mobile phones had been switched off since August 26.
Aggarwal said Gangwar's wife had also arrived at the police station. "Despite being aware of his affair with Nisha, his wife stayed with her husband's parents, and had not separated from him," the SSP said, adding that no one had turned up from Nisha's family, although police had found out that she was a divorcee with a three-year-old daughter.

Two, including doctor, arrested for gruesome double murder
In a major breakthrough, the police has arrested the owner of a known hospital and his accomplice in the sensational and brutal murder of two members of the hospital's nursing staff, whose badly mutilated headless bodies were found in the Nanakmutta dam here on September 8.
Khatima DSP J R Joshi today told mediapersons that the police had arrested Dr Ashish Dhasmana, the owner of Dhasmana hospital in Banbasa and his accomplice Idrish for the murder.
The police had also recovered from another hospital amid forest area, the huge knives, the victim woman Nisha's hair, some clothes and intoxicant injections used in the dual murder.
Mr Joshi said that after murdering Sister Nisha and ward boy Vijay Pal Gangwar, the two accused dismembered the heads, hands and legs and threw these 40 km away in the Nanakmutta dam.
The police has collected all proofs regarding the gruesome crime.
The police today made the revelations about the case after interrogating the accused for almost 10 days.
The mutilated bodies of the two were found on September 8, two days after the crime was committed.
The identity of the victims could be established almost after a week due to mutilated state of the bodies.
