Crime Patrol: Delhi: 19-Year-Old Girl Dies After Being Stabbed 35 Times for Resisting Eve Teasing (Episode 585 on 5th Nov, 2015)

The Inside Story
A 19-year-old girl was stabbed to death by two men in Delhi's Anand Parbat locality on Friday for resisting eve-teasing. Meenakshi, a class 11 student was stabbed 35 times on the face, chest and stomach by the duo, against whom she had earlier filed a molestation case.

The two men, who are brothers, were later arrested by the police and charged with murder. One of the accused has been identified as Jaiprakash.

On Friday, Meenakshi was at the local market along with her mother, when she was confronted by the attackers. The 19-year-old, sensing something sinister, fled the scene, but was chased down by the duo, IANS reported.

She was later cornered by the two at the balcony of a house and was stabbed repeatedly. The girl's mother, who also had rushed to save her daughter, sustained severe injuries.

Later, both the women were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital in Connaught Place, where the 19-year-old breathed her last.

The police said that in 2013 Meenakshi had lodged a molestation case against the two.

Delhi: 19-year-old girl stabbed 35 times by duo accused of molesting her 2 years ago

Mother also attacked: My daughter was killed in front of 50 people but no one came to her help.

A 19-year-old girl from Central Delhi’s Anand Parbat area died after she was stabbed 35 times, allegedly by two brothers living in her neighbourhood. The incident occurred outside the girl’s home on Thursday evening. Police have arrested the brothers in connection with the case and are probing if other people were involved in the attack.

The girl’s family members have alleged that she had been molested by the two accused earlier but despite lodging a complaint, police had taken no action against them. They also claimed that she was attacked by her neighbours over the two-year-old police complaint.

But police have claimed that no such complaint had been registered. “We have not received such a complaint. She was attacked by the accused after a heated argument,” DCP (Central) Parmaditya said. Initial findings of the victim’s autopsy report revealed that she had been stabbed 35 times, police said.

The victim and the accused resided in the same area and had a strained relationship, police said, adding that “they often fought with each other over petty issues”. “On Thursday evening, she was waylaid by her neighbours, Jai Prakash alias Sunny and Illu, when she was returning home after buying groceries from the local market. The accused started verbally abusing her and when she objected, they stabbed her,” an officer said.

“She was rushed to RML Hospital, where she succumbed to injuries. After registering the case, we deployed local sources and several raids were conducted in possible hideouts. We have arrested the accused persons from the premises of a nearby school. A knife was recovered from their possession,” DCP Parmaditya said.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family claimed that even though several people witnessed the attack, none of them came forward to help her. They also claimed that the alleged attackers’ mother was also involved in the incident and demanded that she should be arrested too.

The victim’s mother claimed that she had also been stabbed by the accused. “My daughter was killed in front of 50 people but no one came forward to help her. When I confronted the accused, they stabbed me too. I have injuries on my hand and back,” she said.

The victim’s family claimed that in October 2013, the girl had lodged a police complaint in which she stated that she had been molested by the two accused and they had allegedly threatened to throw acid on her face. The girl’s mother claimed that her daughter had been eve-teased by the accused several times and a case had been registered at both Anand Parbat and Kamla Market police stations.

“We have made several complaints against the accused and a court case is going on. But they still continued harassing her,” the mother said.

According to DCP Parmaditya, a complaint was submitted by the victim’s mother to the DCP’s office around two years ago and after investigation, the mother of the accused was arrested under Section 7/51 of the IPC, on charges of breach of peace.

“No case of molestation was registered either at Anand Parbat or Kamla Market police station,” he added.
