his 11-year old, which allegedly pushed him to commit suicide, Sewree fast track
court last week convicted him for abetting suicide.
Sessions Judge N G Gimekar sentenced Diwan Singh to five-years rigorous
imprisonment. Singh, who worked with an LPG cylinder agency was arrested on July
12, 2011, after his son consumed a bottle of pesticide and died.
According to the prosecution, the child was depressed and was regularly beaten
by his father. On the day of the incident, Singh had beaten up his son Jai for
bunking school regularly. Twice in the past, Jai had bunked school and Singh,
fearing that his son was abducted, had filed a complaint with the police.
“The child was disinterested in studies. Singh wanted his son to study.
Everytime he (victim) bunked, his father was informed by the school authorities,
and would consequently beat his son regularly," an officer from Oshiwara police
station said.
On the day of the incident when Diwan Singh came back home to have lunch, he saw
his son playing. He apparently lost his cool and hit his son to a point that
their neighbours were forced to intervene. But Singh did not relent, and
continued to beat his son.
Medical reports show the child suffered 20 injuries. Neighbours deposed against
Singh and chronicled several instances when he had beaten up his child. One
witness also hinted at the possibility of the child being depressed. “The child
was a loner and was always nervous,” said one of the witnesses. While the police
had booked Singh under the charge of abetment of suicide, the defence maintained
that Singh was only guilty of beating his son and not pushing him to commit
suicide.

Realtor's murder case solved, 3 arrested
RAJKOT: Local Crime branch (LCB) officials of Rajkot police solved the five-day-old Rajdeepsinh Rana murder case on Monday and arrested three accused in the case.
Police identified the accused as Ashish Ghelani alias Topi, Kalpesh Mehra and Anirudhasinh Jadeja, Rana's relative. The accused had strangled Rana to death on last Wednesday and had left his body in his car.
"The murder conspiracy was hatched by Jadeja, whom Rana considered his uncle. Jadeja was jealous of Rana who had made a good progress in his business after severing partnership with Jadeja. A few days ago of the crime, Rana had beaten up his friend Ashish over some financial dispute, following which Ashish had decided to teach him a lesson. Seizing this opportunity, Jadeja instigated Ashish to bump Rana off. Ashish convinced his friend Kalpesh to participate in the crime and thus, the conspiracy was hatched," an LCB official said.
As per their plan, Ashish and Kalpesh invited Rana for an orgy with a prostitute in a farmhouse on Kalawad Road. The duo got into Rana's car and asked him to drive to the farmhouse. In the way, Kalpesh started beating Rana up. Before Rana could retaliate, Ashish, who sate in the rear seat, strangled Rana to death with a copper wire. Then the accused removed gold ornaments from Rana's body and left him in his car before walking away from the spot.

Hell hath no fury like a man who has his masculinity scorned and that’s
precisely what drove Infoscion Sathish Kumar Gupta to kill wife Priyanka
in the ruthless way that he did. According to police sources, Sathish, an
HR manager, and Priyanka, a mathematics teacher at Delhi Public School,
had frequent quarrels over the past few months.
One reason for the quarrels was the lack of children despite being married
for four years. While Sathish suspected Priyanka’s ability to conceive,
she called him impotent during one such fight on Sunday. She even
threatened to make it public and an infuriated Sathish decided to kill her
for daring to question his masculinity.
Murder during yoga
It was while Priyanka was doing a yogasana in a sitting posture, closing
her eyes and taking a deep breath that Sathish strangled her with a nylon
thread. He then slit her throat to create an impression that it was the
act of a professional gang of killers like the Dandupalya who targeted
home-alone women and aged people for gain. Sathish had read crime stories
of the Dandupalya gang and drawing inspiration from them, he slit her
throat and told police that Rs 2.1 lakh cash and valuable gold jewellery
had gone missing.
Pinned his hopes on friend
Sathish had hoped that his childhood friend, Kishan, with whom he would go
jogging would provide an alibi. So, he told the police that his wife had
called him while he was jogging with Kishan to inform him about two
newspaper vendors at their door. He expected the cops to dismiss it as a
murder-for-gain case.

When police questioned Kishan, he confirmed that Sathish had received a
call while jogging and he had heard him saying, “Don’t entertain them.” He
also said that Sathish had told him about the newspaper vendors.
Luck runs out
But Sathish ran out of luck due to inconsistencies in his story. For one,
police found that Kishan had also made a call to Sathish (and this one had
come after the call from Priyanka’s phone). Kishan confirmed it saying he
had called to tell Sathish that he would not be able to make it for
jogging as he had to take his mother for a yoga session. Sathish had told
Kishan not to back out since they could finish their jogging quickly and
disperse.
Going through the cellphone records, police found that the tower location
for both Sathish and Priyanka’s cellphones was the same though Sathish had
claimed that he was a distance away, jogging, when the call came. With
Kishan’s statement, police suspected that Sathish had killed his wife and
then used her phone to call himself.
Inconsistencies
Other inconsistencies included Sathish wearing leather shoes while
jogging. Secondly, police found jewellery worth lakhs on Priyanka’s body
intact along with Rs 30,000 cash at home thus ruling out the
murder-for-gain possibility. Moreover, Sathish returned home more than an
hour after receiving the call from his wife. Any human being, under normal
circumstances, would have rushed back home.
When police confronted him with all the technical evidence they had while
he was in their custody, Sathish confessed to the crime.
He also said that he had become friendly with a girl from
Basaveshwaranagar recently and had wanted to marry her after the murder
case was closed. Instead, he was arrested and is in police custody for
eight days. If convicted, he will be sentenced to life imprisonment or
death.

AURANGABAD: Fed up with her husband's reckless spending after he came into
money, a 32-year-old woman from Adgaon near here allegedly hired two men for
Rs 50,000 to kill him. The woman, Sunita Daspute, was arrested by the
Aurangabad rural police on Tuesday. Assistant police inspector Sandeep Gurme
of the Chikalthana police station said that the murdered man, Baburao (35),
had received his share of Rs 23 lakh after his father sold seven acres of land
in Nipani village for Rs 76 lakh a few months back. "Baburao spent part of the
money to buy 12 acres of land. However, he also began spending heavily on
female 'tamasha' artistes, alcohol and buying vehicles. He also started living
away from home," Gurme said.

According to Gurme, Baburao had bought a car recently which he soon sold for
half the price to buy a motorcycle. He later sold the motorcycle to buy
another one. He also bought a tractor by taking a loan, which his father ended
up repaying. He later bought another tractor. Sunita told the police that she
decided to eliminate her husband to secure her future and that of her
children. She hired two youths, who were digging a well in her farm, to kill
Baburao and promised them Rs 25,000 each. Accordingly, they hatched a plan to
kill him on the day of the village jatra on January 19. Gurme said the two
youths told Baburao that they would introduce him to a woman during the jatra.
They asked him to meet them at a certain place in the evening. "Baburao was
drunk when he reached the spot on his motorcycle. One of the youths then rode
pillion on Baburao's motorcycle while the other followed them to a deserted
spot on the Adgaon-Nipani road. There, the youths hit Baburao on the head
repeatedly with a wooden plank, killing him on the spot.
They then threw the body and the bike on the roadside to make it look like an
accident," Gurme said. The killers were in constant touch with Sunita on her
cellphone, telling her to keep the money ready. She had paid them just Rs 500
as an advance amount. The police found Baburao's body and also received a
tip-off about Sunita's involvement in the crime. Under interrogation, she
confessed to having hired the killers. "The police solved the case under the
guidance of superintendent of police Manoj Lohiya and sub-divisional police
officer Pallavi Barge," Gurme said. Sunita has been remanded to police custody
till January 29.

AHMEDABAD: The cause of the murder of Kunal Pancholi, the software engineer
from Sola, has been eluding investigators as they have not yet found the
alleged four to five clippings of his intimate moments with Megha Shah, who
murdered him with the help of her boyfriend Chirag Rana on August 18.
Megha had claimed that Kunal used to blackmail her with the clips and they
were the main reason why she and Chirag murdered him.
Megha has alleged in her confessional statement that Kunal had shot the clips
on his mobile phone's camera. Kunal's mobile phone is still missing. Megha and
Chirag have confessed to have thrown it in the Narmada canal near Khoraj.
Cops took help of fire brigade swimmers to locate the missing evidence but in
two days of search, they could not find the mobile phone. In such a scenario,
it is difficult for the cops to say whether Megha is actually telling the
truth or hiding any other motive.
"Megha told in her statement that she was forced to agree to Kunal's wishes as
he threatened to expose her to her family members and circulate the MMS
around. She also told us that Kunal had the clips in his mobile phone and a
data storage device — most probably his pen drive — but she had not seen it
after he had showed it to her a month ago. We have not yet got the clips,"
said ND Chauhan, sub-inspector of Adalaj police station, who is investigating
the case said on Sunday.
Kunal's laptop too has been seized and sent for forensic verification.
Investigators are yet to submit their report. And the police do not know if
the video clips are actually in the laptop. "This may seem like a remote
possibility, but we are not taking any chances," they say.

The Inside Story
The three along with two others whom they identified as Rajendra, Kailash and Satyanarain had killed Hardwari Lal and his wife Umaria. During the interrogation from the three nabbed, it came to light that it was Malti who had schemed the crime.
Malti told police that Hardwari Lal was Malti's brother-in-law and ten days before his death had transferred his plot in the village in the name of Malti's husband and victim's step-brother, Molahe. The victims had no children. In between the period of his transferring his land in the name of Molahe and his death, Hardwari Lal met one Dayaram who was friends with the victim. Dayaram was also close to the victim so Hardwari Lal also promised him a share in the land which he had transferred to his step-brother.
This conversation was heard by Malti who thought that if Lal gives Dayaram a share in his land, Molahe and his family would have to bear the loss. Hence, she plotted the double murder. For committing the crime, Malti approached his brother, Tinna who had twenty criminal cases already lodged against him in Mohanlalganj police station.
Tinna agreed to help her sister out and he along with three others killed the old couple with a chopper. Apart from Tinna, Rajendra had nine cases against him followed by Kailash who has three and Shivlal has one.
The three culprits were nabbed only after police came to know that they were seen near the scene of crime on the day it was committed. Police were now hunting for the remaining accomplices.

Moinuddin, a student of K L International Public School, was kidnapped on
February 20 by his friends Vishal, Rahul and their associates, DIG police J N
Singh said.
Later, the accused called the victim's father and demanded Rs. 50 lakhs
ransom, he said.
The shocking incident came to light when one of the kidnappers, Rahul Agarwal,
committed suicide on Friday after being interrogated by the police.
The suicide note recovered from him revealed the involvement of the main
accused Vishal, Singh said.
Vishal confessed to his crime after being interrogated and later the victim's
body was recovered from the nearby forest of Hastinapur, he said.
The police is trying to nab the other friends involved in the crime as
revealed by Vishal, he said.
It is suspected that the main reason behind the kidnapping and murder was
personal enmity rather than ransom money, the police said.

AHMEDABAD: The main accused in case of double murder of NRI mother and daughter in Gandhinagar escaped from a courtroom on Tuesday morning.
Aamin Badshah Mansuri, 27, a resident of Sector 6, was arrested in May 2011 for killing his neighbours Madhu Trivedi, 52 and her daughter Nupur, 28, a doctor, in their house and stealing valuables on April 21. Nupur had come to Gandhinagar for her marriage from Florida, US, and her mother had accompanied her for shopping before the wedding.
Nupur was found dead from the ground floor of the house whereas Madhu's body was found on the first floor. Their throats were slit by a knife. The incident took place barely a week before Nupur's wedding.
Mansuri managed to escape from a courtroom in Gandhinagar during the case's hearing on Tuesday morning. Gandhinagar police was put on high alert after the incident and major roads out of the district were barricaded.
Investigators said that Mansuri was close to the family and had made a plan to rob around 800 grams of gold ornaments that Nupur had bought for wedding. Police had also arrested two more - Rakesh Parmar, 26, a resident of Sector 17; and Shashikant Makwana, 24, a resident of Vavol, Gandhinagar - for their involvement in the crime and recovered Rs 7 lakh.
Sector 7 police officials said that Mansuri was brought to the district court accompanied by police personnel on custody duty. Soon after he entered the courtroom, Mansuri fled from an exit and opened a sliding window. He then jumped off the window and fell on a tin roof above court parking lot.
The policemen came out with and tried to catch him but he jumped off the roof and then started running in direction of exit. Soon, he was picked up by his accomplice on a bike and they zoomed off from the spot.
When contacted, in-charge superintendent of police Usha Rada told TOI that soon after the message was relayed, the district's entry and exit points were sealed and vehicle checking was intensified. "We have sent Mansuri's photograph to the state control and have informed nearby districts about the escape. Search for him is on," she said.

The murderous duo of Meenakshi and Vinod Kumar hired four contract killers to eliminate Ravindra, a physiotherapist in Rohini. After the first two attempts, they tried to kill him again on April 27. But this time too, their luck ran out. This time, they gave the contract to first-time killers and even bought clothes and provided details of the target.
DCP Chhaya Sharma said: “Physiotherapist Dr Ravindra and the dentist, Meenakshi Bharti, belong to the same caste and share similar background. Their families know each other well. There was no way, she could have spurned Ravindra’s marriage proposal.”
Meenakshi was under pressure from Ravindra to marry him, so she decided to eliminate him. “Meenakshi also knew another doctor, Vinod Kumar, who runs a dental clinic nearby. Together , they decided to kill Ravindra . Vinod arranged everything from contract killers to country-made pistols, while Meenakshi played the mole and sweet-talked Ravindra into the trap,” she said.
Police said the two had tried to kill Ravindra thrice since July 2009, but he survived everytime . After the latest bid, he is admitted in hospital. Ravindra had even changed his office and house to avoid detection.
Officials said Ravindra had no clue that Meenakshi wanted to kill him because the two were in a relationship and their family knew about it. “Probably, Ravindra knew something and was blackmailing her to marry him,” said Sharma.
Meenakshi and Vinod were arrested on Sunday while they were in Nainital on honeymoon . “After attacking Ravindra on April 27, they went to Meerut and got married,” said and officer.
The four contract killers have been identified as Harish, Amit, Umesh and Pawan. They had fired at Ravindra outside Vardhman Hospital in Rohini. “Ravindra suffered a bullet injury and was hospitalized. He has been operated upon,” said Sharma.
The police zeroed in on the contract killers after they left behind their mobile phone on the crime spot. “Vinod wanted to be sure Ravindra is killed this time and told the contract killers to call back,” said Sharma. They had promised to pay Rs 2.5 lakh to to the assailants and Rs 25,000 was paid in advance.
Vinod runs his dental clinic in Ghaziabad. He is also a visiting consultant to several dental clinics and hospitals in Vijay Nagar. Meenakshi runs her clinic from her house in New Vijay Nagar. Earlier, Ravindra also worked in the Ghaziabad area , but quit after attacks on him. And the hired killers were later in for a shock when they realized Vinod had foxed them by paying in fake currency.

Pushed to the edge by years of abuse and neglect, a former beauty queen killed her parents in a fit of rage, the police said on Monday.
Priyanka Singh, who won the Miss Meerut beauty pageant in 2005, is a student of interior design at the Capital’s South Delhi Polytechnic.
On November 10, Priyanka and friend Anju visited her parents in Meerut’s Prayag Colony to get her marksheet. But when Santosh, her mother, turned down her demand for money, Priyanka allegedly throttled her to death.
Hearing the commotion, her father Premveer Singh, a retired junior engineer, rushed to the room. Police said Priyanka then slit her father’s throat with a kitchen knife.
The two girls then fled with valuables, police said.
Priyanka and Anju were arrested Monday morning. “We have recovered a mobile phone, stolen jewellery, fixed deposit certificates certificates and her father’s will from Priyanka,” Meerut Superintendent of Police Rakesh Jolly said.
According to Jolly, Priyanka harboured deep feelings of hatred for her father.
“My father often teased me for being an illegitimate child and my brother, too, regularly beat me up. Also, they didn’t support my dream of pursuing a career in fashion design even after I had completed a course in the subject,” Priyanka said.
After falling out with her family, Priyanka left Meerut and decided to stay with her friend Anju in Amroha five months back. Here she came into close contact with Ajendra, a cousin of Anju. On hearing this, her father lodged an FIR against Ajendra, accusing him of abducting her.
Priyanka’s agony didn’t end with leaving her family. When Anju’s cousin Ajendra and his uncle too outraged her modesty, she filed a complaint against them with the National Commission for Women in New Delhi.
She tried finding a job in Noida and then another in Saharanpur, but was again cheated by Tarun, a friend who promised to help Priyanka get a job.
At the South Delhi Polytechnic, Anju and she became close friends after realising that Anju, too, had faced a lot of abuse from her relatives after losing her parents as a child.
