Crime Patrol: Woman, paramour arrested for murder of mother-in-law (Episode 184 on 30th Nov 2012)

New Delhi, Aug 17, 2012

A 24-year-old woman was arrested for alleged involvement in killing her 60-year-old mother-in-law in Chhawla area over threats that she would reveal her extra-marital affair to her husband.

Her school time boyfriend and one his accomplice were also arrested for carrying out the attack during the wee hours of August 13, police said on Friday.

Poonam, a resident of Roshan Vihar, Sushil Kumar, 29, of New Roshan Pura and Deepak, 26, Sushil’s brother-in-law are the accused.

“Weapons of offence – a knife and a hockey stick – have been recovered,” said Ravi Shanker, additional deputy commissioner of police (south west).

Poonam has confessed that her marriage was solemnised against her will in 2008. But she continued to be in touch with her boyfriend Sushil.

“He used to come to her Roshan Vihar residence when her in-laws were away. Of late, Sushil was seen by Krishna, her mother-in-law, who threatened to reveal this relationship to her husband,” Shanker added.

Due to the threat, Poonam and Sushil decided to eliminate Krishna and carried out the attack on Monday.

Initially, it was believed that Krishna was stabbed to death and her husband was injured by three men who targeted their residence for burglary.

She screamed

Krishna was in her first-floor room when her husband Jagdish Chand, 65, heard her screaming for help at around 2 am.

“When Jagdish rushed to the room, he saw two men aged about 25-26 years attacking Krishna with a knife. Another person was ransacking the room and they also attacked Jagdish when he rushed to help his wife,” Shanker added.

The intruders inflicted knife wounds on Jagdish and beat him up with a hockey stick before fleeing with cash, jewellery and several documents.

Despite being injured, Jagdish managed to go downstairs to inform his son Manoj, who approached police.

“Krishna’s body was found lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit. Krishna and Jagdish were taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital, where Krishna was declared brought dead,” Shanker said.

Jagdish, a peon at Rao Mohar Singh Memorial School in Najafgarh, was discharged after first-aid treatment.

During investigation, police found that a family member might be involved in the case.

Strangers visit house

“It came to light that some strangers used to visit Krishna’s house, which she used to oppose and had cautioned her daughter-in-law in this context,” Shanker added.

Subsequently, Poonam was detained and interrogated. There were several discrepancies in her statement, but when confronted with hard facts, she could not give any satisfactory reply and broke down.

A case has been lodged against Poonam, Sushil and Deepak at Chhawala police station. The charges are of murder, robbery and causing hurt under sections 302, 392 and 394 of the Indian Penal Code.

Interestingly and unfortunately the kidnappers and the killers are related to the family. One of them lives in the neighbourhood of the killed child.

A pall of gloom descended the holy city, especially the area, where the unfortunate family lives.

10 year old Sushant Arora alias Karam son of Sushil Arora, from a middle-class family, had gone missing on Wednesday, 11th of June from near his residence at Gali Telian, Gate Hakiman in Amritsar.

R P Mittal, Police Commissioner of Amritsar addressing media at Police lines said that though the child was kidnapped on 11th of June the family informed the police only on 13th of June. However, the abductors had killed the child, the day he was kidnapped.

He said that it was height of insensitiveness and cruelty that even after kiilling the child, the kidnappers continued to ask for ransom and threaten the family. The kidnappers first demanded a ransom of Rs. One crore but later wanted to have at least Rs. 50 lakh to let the child go, who was dead by then.

The child had gone to play cricket with his friends and didn’t return home.  Later the family got calls threatening them not to report the matter to police. A case regarding abduction of the child was registered at Police Station Gate Hakiman.

Those arrested include Harpreet Happy, Gagandeep Singhy, Sukhchain Singh, Palwinder Singh and Sarabjit Kaur. One accused by the name of Prince is said to be absconding.

The family however, informed police which sounded a Red Alert and searched frantically for the child.

The father of the child told media that the kidnappers were demanding a ransom of Rs. One Crore and had asked him to paste posters in a nearby Chowk when the amount was ready.

Crime Patrol: Runaway boy cannot recall where he spent 13 days (Episode 181 on 23rd Nov 2012)

The Inside Story
MUMBAI: The Std IV student, who was traced to Chunabhatti on Thursday, told his father that an unidentified man had taken him to his house in Dharavi. He said he was not allowed to leave the house for 13 days. He also said he was beaten on his legs, but he managed to flee and reached Chunabhatti. Once there, the boy spoke to a traffic police constable and with his help got back home around 9.30pm.

The boy ran away from outside his flat at Sion Shivaji Nagar Cooperative Housing Society on October 6. His father had made him to stand outside the house for telling a lie that he had an extended session of tuition class. "The boy ran away from home when he realized that his tuition teacher would tell his father that he had left the class around 3.45pm, saying that he was going to the temple. Instead, he went to play with friends," inspector B S More of Sion police.

"We find something amiss in my son's explanation of how he ran from Dharavi and reached Chunabhatti. He said that after leaving home, he had walked with some boys and reached Sion station where he got lost," the boy's father said. When the boy was trying to find his way back home, a man accosted him and took him to his home, telling the boy he would help him return home on Sunday.

"My son said on reaching his house, the man's wife gave him another set of clothes to wear. They gave him food but whenever my son stepped out, this man's two sons accompanied him. On Friday, my son fled when the man was at work and his wife was in the kitchen," his father said.

The boy said he can't identify the place where he had stayed. "He said on reaching Chunbhatti, he asked a traffic cop for help to go to Bhau Daji Road in Sion. The constable called Sion police and gave them the boy's description which matched with the missing complaint," said More.

Crime Patrol: Naresh Sharma gets himself murdered to claim insurance money (Episode 179, 180 on 17th, 18th Nov 2012)

PART I

PART II

Inside Story
Oct 1, 2012

LUCKNOW: It's a plot befitting reel life but was instead orchestrated in real life. The police in UP's Lakhimpur Kheri district (shown as Fatehpur) have cracked the murder of a businessman whose body was found on September 20. And the cops have gathered conclusive evidence that the deceased had planned his own murder.

The deceased, Harsh Gupta (shown as Naresh Sharma), had financial liabilities worth more than Rs 50 lakh. He plotted his murder thinking that his family would get the insurance money after his death and write off the debts.

Gupta's body was recovered from a village under Kotwali police station of Lakhimpur on September 20. Gupta, who dealt in readymade garments, was also a local BJP leader.

The murder came as a blind case for the police as initial inquiries failed to trace any dispute. "Clueless about the motive we were scanning the call details of the three cellphones of Gupta. We noticed one number which was appearing frequently since last one month and the frequency increased by the day till Gupta was found murdered," said SP Lakhimpur Kheri Kunwar Dalbir Singh (played by Siraj mustafa Khan).

"Tracing further details of the suspected number, we discovered that quite a few times, after Gupta called the particular number or got a call from that number, the two phones came together under the same cellphone tower indicating that the two probably met after the call," he added.

The number was traced to Shatrohan (shown as Amitabh Tiwari) of Phool Behard village in Lakhimpur. Initially refusing to admit his role in the murder, he gave in following sustained interrogation and led the police to his aide Ram Asrey who was missing since Gupta's body was found.

What came as a shocker for the police was the confession of Shatrohan that Gupta himself had plotted his murder. Shatrohan claimed that Gupta had to repay debts worth over Rs 50 lakh. Most of the money was spent on organising public meetings and dinners while some was invested in business.

Shatrohan told police that Gupta approached him about a fortnight before his murder and convinced him to plan his murder. "Initially I refused. But then he told me that he had life insurance policies worth over Rs 70 lakh and his debts were estimated to be around Rs 50 lakh. Hence his family will be able to pay his debts from the policy returns, once he is dead. Since the policies will become invalid if he committed suicide, he had to be murdered or at least this death must appear to be one," Shatrohan said.

Shatrohun then roped in Ram Asrey to do the job. Gupta agreed to pay Rs 10,000 to Ram Asrey. The trio met on September 19 evening. Shatrohan and Ram Asrey consumed liquor while Gupta consumed some tablets. After about half an hour Gupta asked the two to murder him. Ram Asrey first shot him in the back from a distance. Once Gupta hit the ground, Asrey strangled him. Ram Asrey and Shatrohun then left the spot.

"His description matches the postmortem report which speaks of death due to strangulation," said Inspector Prabhat Singh of the Kotwali police station. "We also managed to establish that Gupta had got himself insured for around Rs 70 lakh while his family was also aware of most of his liabilities," Singh said. Gupta's parents and wife refused to comment on the police theory. Ironically, with the murder being worked out, the family is now unlikely to get the benefits of life insurance.

Crime Patrol: Teen pushed into flesh trade rescued, parents arrested (Episode 176, 177 on 9th and 10th Nov 2012)

Inside Story
NEW DELHI

She was forced into prostitution by her greedy parents who made good money by selling her to various pimps. However, the 15-year-old girl managed to escape from the trafficker's clutches and hid at a shelter in western UP. When she couldn't be found, her parents sought the help of police to trace her. Little did they know that the move would land them in the police net. The teenager has been rescued from Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh.

The girl's father, who supplies vegetables at the wholesale market in Ghazipur, was under debt after suffering a loss in business. He had recently brought the girl to the capital from his native village, on the promise of providing her with better educational facilities. She had barely adjusted to life in the big city when her parents made her meet a pimp, Ravinder Singh (shown as Mohan Kumar), involved in several cases of trafficking across three states.

Realizing that her parents were forcing her into the flesh trade, the girl made three attempts to run away from her north Rohini residence. Each time, she was caught and beaten up by her father. "The victim told us that even her mother beat her up. She attended to clients every night and the money was shared by the pimp andher parents. As money started flowing in, her parents' greed increased. They ordered her to stay at a brothel run by Ravinder," said DCP (outer) B S Jaiswal.

Ravinder took the girl to Moradabad and handed her over to another pimp, Shanno (shown as Malti), who then sold her to a person named Sachin Rastogi, who belongs to Sambhal. Last month, the minor finally found an opportunity to run away.

When she couldn't be traced, her mother lodged a missing person's complaint at the North Rohini police station on September 29. Assuming it to be a case of kidnapping, cops launched a search operation. "The parents thought that after finding the girl we will send her back to them and they will again push her into prostitution," said Jaiswal. The victim will be produced before a Child Welfare Committee. Her parents, Ravinder, Shanno and Sachin have been arrested.

In a bizarre incident, parents of a 15-year-old girl allegedly forced her into prostitution to overcome the financial crisis of the family.

They sold her to a pimp and would receive a fixed amount monthly in return. Somehow, the girl managed to escape from the clutches of a pimp based in Sambhal. After, the girl fled, panicked parents started rigorous search for her when the pimp stopped sending money to them.

When their all efforts went in vain, they approached the Delhi Police and lodged a missing complaint. Following the investigation by the police, the shocking revelation came to light about the misdeed of the parents. Consequently, five persons, including parents of the girl were arrested and the victim was rescued. The girl had taken refuge at her one of the relatives in Bhalaswa dairy in Delhi. Following the tip off, the girl was rescued.

Police said that the accused father Lal Singh (shown as Chaman) and the girl’s mother Chandrawati (shown as Alka) and three pimps Ravinder Singh (shown as Mohan), Shanno and Sachin Rastogi had been arrested in this connection. “Initially it appeared to be a case of kidnapping of a minor girl but during investigation, police came to know that father of victim is a vegetables supplier. Singh was under huge debts due to loses in business hence he forced his daughter into prostitution to get rdi of his debts,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) BS Jaiswal.

He added he planned to make quick money and cleared his debts. “He went to his native Village and brought the girl to Delhi on the pretext of getting her into good school. But, the parents sold her to Ravinder. When, she resisted, she was badly beaten up by her father and mother. The earning of prostitution of girl was shared by the pimps and parents of victim,” the official added.

Then, the girl was sold in Moradabad to one Shanno (shown as Malti). Later, Shanno further handed over the girl to another pimp ~ Sachin in Sambhal. The further investigation of the case is in progress. The victim will be produced before Child Welfare Committee.

Crime Patrol: Teacher fakes his abduction, murder to teach wife a lesson (Episode 173 on 2nd Nov 2012)

Inside Stroy
New Delhi: In order to teach a lesson to his wife who objected to his affair with his student, a 35-year-old teacher faked his abduction and murder and went in hiding in Dehradun but was traced and arrested, police said on Saturday.

Ashish Kumar Peter, a coaching institute owner and a resident of Swatanter Nagar in Narela, went missing from his institute on the Teacher's Day.

Peter's wife, Ritu Peter, had lodged a complaint with the police after she found the shutter of the institute partially open and blood stains in the room and on the walls, suspected him to have been abducted and murdered, a senior police official said.

During inspection of the crime scene, it appeared that Peter was abducted or murdered and his body disposed off.

His wife told the police that Peter woke up at 4 AM and went to his coaching centre and after about half an hour when she reached there with tea, she didn't find him and saw blood on the wall and the floor and made the call.

"During the probe, doubts surfaced that the crime scene was staged, manipulated and fabricated, which was confirmed by a team of forensic science lab team," said MA Rizvi, ACP Outer District.

During interrogation, Peter said he had an affair with one of his students and his wife objected to it due to which there were frequent quarrels in his house over the issue.

Fed up with his wife's intervention, he decided to teach her a lesson and to create a suspicion he slashed his right palm with blade and splattered blood on the floor, wall and door of the room to create a scene of abduction and murder," Rizvi said.

He fled to Dehradun but kept in touch with his students. He had also shaved his head and removed his moustache to hide is identity, he said.
