Police said the victim suspected his wife to be involved in a prostituion racket following which they had regular fights.

In a shocking incident, a woman hatched a conspiracy to kill her husband and for the purpose she hired another woman to get into a relationship with him. The body of Jeevan Singh, 33, was found dumped in Sidhwan Canal on January 16 and police arrested the wife of the victim Manpreet Kaur, 30 along her accomplices for murder charges.

Strained relationship between the husband and the wife is being cited as the reason behind the murder. On January 15, Manpreet found her husband in a compromising position with the woman whom she had hired. Manpreet then along with her accomplice strangulated him to death.

The accused had dumped the body into Sidhwan Canal after which the brother of the victim told police that it might be a case of murder.

While the police have already arrested Manpreet, raids are on to arrest her accomplices —Parveen Rani, Manjit Singh and Sonu. A case under Section 302 (murder), 201(Causing disappearance of evidence of offence), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) under the Indian Penal Code has been registered following the complaint of Ranjit Singh, brother of the deceased.

The deceased was a carpenter and the couple had two children. Inspector Ashwani Kumar, SHO Daba police station, said, the victim suspected his wife to be involved in a prostituion racket following which they had regular fights. Fed up  Manpreet decided to kill her husband and hired Parveen Rani for Rs 30,000 for having an affair with her husband.

“As part of a well planned conspiracy, Manpreet on January 15 went to visit her relatives with their children leaving a chance for Parveen to be alone with her husband. When she returned, she found them in a compromising situation and called her two accomplices.,” said Kumar. He added that Manpreet has confessed to the crime.

Wife held for husband’s murder

LUDHIANA: A 35-year-old woman was arrested by local police on Sunday for killing her husband and then dumping his body in the Sidwan Cana lwho tortured her and forced her into prostitution.

The body of Jeevan Singh, 33, was found dumped in Sidhwan Canal on January 16 and police arrested the wife of the victim Manpreet Kaur, 30 along her accomplices for murder charges.

MUMBAI: "Maine Bambai me ek ladki par acid feka kar jala diya hai. (I threw acid and burnt a girl in Mumbai)", Ankur Panwar (23), the accused in the Preeti Rathi acid attack case, reportedly told his cousin Ravi.



Ravi, who runs a garage in Gurgaon, told the police that after throwing acid at Preeti on May 2, 2013, Ankur returned to Delhi, but instead to going to his house, he came to meet him. Ravi claimed that after confessing to the crime, Ankur kept quiet for a long time. When Ravi questioned Ankur further, he told him he had lied and started laughing.



Ravi's statement is part of the 1,322-page chargesheet filed before the 37th metropolitan magistrate on Wednesday. In the chargesheet, the police said Ankur threw acid at Preeti, his neighbour from Narela near Delhi, because of jealousy and unrequited love.



The police have also annexed Ankur's mobile phone records and Preeti's medical reports, including the post-mortem, and the forensic report of the acid used in the crime.



The Mumbai crime branch has made Ravi a key witness in the case, and booked Ankur under IPC sections 302 (murder), 326-A (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid), 326-B (voluntarily throwing or attempting to throw acid). On May 2, 2013, as Preeti, her father, uncle and aunt got off at Bandra Terminus, a masked man threw acid at her. Preeti was to join the Army Medical College in Colaba as a nurse.



On January 17, 2014, the crime branch arrested Ankur. Ankur's mother, Kailashrani had said, "When the police brought him home on January 21, Ankur told me that he had thrown the acid on Preeti."



Preeti's aunt and uncle —Sunita and Vinod Dahiya—are also witnesses in the case.

Crime Patrol: 'Missing' Marathi actress back with beau (Episode 345, 346 on 7th, 8th March 2014)

Marathi actress Alka Punewar, who was found in Chennai with her alleged boyfriend Alok Paliwal, was brought back by a team of Thane police on Wednesday. The police said no case has been registered against the duo.



Punewar had disappeared on December 27 after her husband saw her off near Kopri.

“We got their custody from the Chennai police and brought them to Thane,” said an officer from Kopri police station.



Talking to media persons, the 44-year-old actress and a mother of two children said that she had stage-managed the whole episode because she did not want her children to suffer the ignominy of their mother running away with a younger person. She added that she eloped because she was fed up with her husband.



A police source said it was the calls that were made to Sanjay Sonkar, a common friend of Alka and Alok, 29, that nailed them. During investigations, Alka’s husband Sanjay had revealed about a third SIM card that Alka was using. When the police checked this number, they found that both Alka and Alok were constantly in touch with Sonkar. The police picked up Sonkar from his Panvel residence and he spilled the beans. “Last week, Alka texted Sonkar from a new number and we tracked down the location to Chennai,” said the source.



On December 27, Alka went missing and after a day her car was found in Khopoli valley.



Her mobile phone was found around 100 metres away from the car.



In true filmy style, they staged her kidnap/missing drama. They bought a Maruti 800 car for Rs25,000 and threw it in the Khopoli valley so that it would look like an accident or kidnap.

Kaithal: From female foeticide to rape to girls forced into unwanted marriages, incidents that have come to the fore seem to show that India just cannot save its women.



A recent one in Haryana reiterates the same.



In the state's Kasaan village in Kaithal, a 17-year-old girl was killed by none other than her own father. Her offence? She did not want to live with a 50-year-old man, whom she was forced to marry.



The remorseless father went on record to say that pride is larger than life. "We know that our pride is larger than life," Indra Singh said.

The girl had apparently gone to the police station to ask for protection but the Panchayat intervened and brought her back.



Before anybody could do anything, the girl was murdered.



The village Panchayat, however, claims that the marriage took place in harmony. "We had only decided that they should come on the 4th and then we will explain to her. The girl denied everything. We have her marriage photos. I was involved in the alliance. Although the girl had initially disagreed but later had changed her mind and the marriage took place in harmony. The panchayat has been insulted," said the Sarpanch.



The police intervened only when the girl was about to be cremated.



"The body of the girl was lying in her house when we went to file the report. We came to know it was a murder case. We have registered a case and investigations are on. The mamaji has given a statement saying that she was married to man much older. She was not interested in the marriage. We are checking facts," said Simardeep Singh, Superintendent of Police, Kaithal.



The girl's father and uncle have surrendered.

Crime Patrol: Facebook pal from Mumbai held for rape of teenaged Goan girl (Episode 343 on 28th Feb 2014)

After 6 months of online friendship, he lured Goa girl to city with promise of marriage.



You could call it the downside of cyber-age friendships. A teenage girl from Goa, who had befriended a 21-year-old from Mumbai on a social networking site, was allegedly raped by him in the city recently. The unemployed youth Sirtaj Ali, who resides in Mankhurd, was arrested by the police on Sunday.

Six months after they became friends on Facebook, Ali invited the girl to Mumbai to “get married” to her. The 17-year-old reached Mumbai on January 8 and was allegedly sexually assaulted over the next couple of days. Ali then abandoned her at Kurla railway station. Ali has been booked for rape and kidnap under Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Goa Children’s Act.



Son of a scrap dealer, Ali had created an account on Facebook by using a fake name — Mohammed Ali — and an impressive-sounding profile. He has studied up to class 12 in a college in Navi Mumbai.



The girl from Canacona in South Goa studies in class XI. As their friendship bloomed, Ali promised to marry the girl. On the morning of January 8, she left home to go to college but went to Madgaon railway station instead, from where she boarded a train for Mumbai. She met Ali at Kurla station.



From there, Ali took her to his friend’s house in Dharavi where he sexually assaulted her. The following day, he bought her a burkha (veil) and a mangalsutra for Rs40 to convince neighbours that she was his wife.



Sub-inspector RS Sakpal of Kurla railway police station said that Ali dropped the girl at Kurla station on January 10 and switched off his cell phone so that he could not be contacted.



The same evening, railway police personnel spotted the girl loitering at the station. When they confronted her, she told them about what she had gone through. Based on the girl’s description of where she had stayed in Dharavi for two days, the railway police combed the area and nabbed Ali.



The railway police immediately contacted the Goa police and reported the matter.



Sub-inspector Anil Goankar of Canacona police station, who had come to the city to take Ali into custody, said that the girl’s parents had filed a case of kidnapping the day she went missing.



The report of a medical check-up done at the civic-run Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar has confirmed sexual assault on two occasons. The girl has been sent to a home for children in Dongri.

A sulking mother, a spirited daughter and a gullible uncle are the most
unlikely characters of this gruesome murder case, whose trigger is said to be
the young woman's lifestyle. Pushpa Kohli gave a contract to her brother,
ironically a Punjab cop, to kill her 23-year-old daughter Kiran, the Faridabad
Police claimed.

"Frustrated over her daughter's lifestyle, smoking and excessive drinking,
Pushpa conspired to kill her daughter Kiran. She gave contract of Rs.1 lakh to
Kulwindar Singh to kill her daughter," ACP (Crime) Poonam Dalal told
reporters.

But it was not the first time that Pushpa had tried to kill her daughter,
the ACP said. During Diwali, Pushpa had served sedative laced food to Kiran.
Her plan to smother Pushpa failed when the latter woke up at the last
moment. It was then Pushpa called Kulwindar at her house on December 6 and
chalked out a plan to kill her daughter. Kulwindar was promised Rs.1 lakh
and some trinkets to execute the murder.

Accordingly, Pushpa sent her husband and son to Bathinda on December 27 to
meet some relatives. She then called Kulwindar, who arrived with his aide at
Pushpa's residence on the intervening night of December 27 and 28. The two
men entered Kiran's room where they overpowered her and mercilessly slit her
throat.



Before leaving the crime scene, Kulwindar tied Pushpa's legs and hands so
that the police suspicion did not fall on her.

After few hours, Pushpa untied herself and called up the police to inform
the murder of the daughter at the hands of two 'assailants'.

The ACP said Pushpa had planned to kill Kiran as she feared that her
daughter had developed illicit relationship with her business partner, who
came from different religion.

Pushpa told her interrogators that her daughter, involved in property
business, used to visit night clubs with men, consumed alcohol and
smoked.



"She was very much disturbed after her daughter did not pay any heed to her
requests to leave the company of such men and live a simple life," the ACP
said.



Kiran was married to a Delhi-based businessman two years ago, but she
returned back as she had marital discord with her husband. She had filed a
divorce petition at the Saket court. While Pushpa accepted the divorce of
her daughter, the ACP said, she could not accept Kiran's lifestyle and
decided to eliminate her.



Pushpa's unsatisfactory replies from the day of the murder itself led
sleuths to doubt her innocence, the officer said. She initially mislead the
police, saying that two women in black burqa entered in the house, tied her
and killed Kiran.

In the wake of a string of high-profile burglaries in posh Lokhandwala
residences that led to the arrest of a group of well-off youngsters, it has
been observed that the number of house break-in and theft (HBT) cases in the
city have increased from last year, especially in the western suburbs.



Despite strengthening security measures in housing societies, the detection
rate is as low as 32%.



Burglaries across the city have risen by 40%. While the numbers have declined
in south and central Mumbai, the western suburbs have seen a maximum increase.
Last year, the number of HBT cases (day and night) in the city was 1,843; this
year it has increased to 2,567. Police attribute this to loopholes in security
measures in gated and non-gated communities and also to the ease in
accessibility for people in urban settings and the reduced risk of being
spotted in crowded communities.

The Oshiwara police, last week, arrested a gang of three youth from well-off
families from the same area. Over the past four months, over eight homes of
actors, businessmen and diamond merchants were burgled of Rs2 crore in cash
and valuables.



The gang broke into Tarapur Tower, Magnum, Ben Hur and other complexes. The
accused, identified as Akash Mitra, 19, Prashant Arora, 20, and Sandeep Arun
Singh alias Sandy, 30, were from affluent families and used the money to buy
expensive drugs. The gang had information about watchmen, the CCTVs’ position
and vacant homes. According to the police, while professional gangs operate in
the city, in many cases, amateurs who are in need of cash carefully study
areas.



As Himanshu Roy, joint CP (crime), said, “Western suburbs have become more
vulnerable to house break-ins, however high-value HBTs have reduced over the
years. We will be holding a meeting to understand what needs to be done to
enhance the detection rate. The quality of security agencies hired by
societies and other technology such as CCTVs and intercoms go a long way in
reducing these crimes.”



Kaisar Khalid, additional CP of east region, said, “HBT is a combination of
many factors. In nuclear families, everyone goes to work or study, but it is
the safety and security measures set up by the housing society that matters.
It has become very easy for people to sneak into any building despite
stringent security.”



He said that in non-gated communities, MHADA and other rehabilitation
structures, there are no guards or CCTVs. “Such places become vulnerable to
burglary. We hold regular meetings with housing societies to ensure there are
sufficient guards and CCTV cameras across the building.



Sometimes, we also find that guards double up as domestic help and are sent
out to fetch groceries. We have been asking societies to not do that.”



Additional CP of north region, Sunil Paraksar, said, “There has been a slight
increase in our region. But we have enhanced patrolling in areas. We ensure
guards in these societies are on their toes while patrolling.”



The absence of CCTVs and other security measures have led to difficulty in
detection. “While the awareness has increased, there is a long way to go.
Since there is no physical contact between the burglars and the victims, we
have to depend on CCTVs, neighbours and eye witnesses. In most cases, CCTVs
are either non-functional or do not capture footage very clearly. Guards
should also keep a watch of every person that goes inside and diary entries
should be made mandatory,” said a senior police officer.



In the south region, however, the number of HBTs have come down compared to
last year.



Krishna Prakash, additional CP of south region, said, “In our area, the
detection in HBTs have increased by 5 to 10% from last year. The number of
cases have also come down. We are also cracking down heavily on drug consumers
and petty criminals in the area as they are involved in such crimes.”



Case studies

1 The flat of a salaried employee, Pravin Kumar, 33, at Prithvi Heights in
Kalamboli was burgled on December 3, while he was at his workplace. He
returned home to find gold worth Rs1.96 lakh stolen.



2 In Feb 2013, Shivmani Mishra, a businessman, and his family returned to
their Gorai home from a two-week trip to Allahabad, to find his house broken
into and jewellery and cash worth Rs1 crore stolen. Five Nepalese workers were
later arrested for the crime



3 On September 29, six flats were burgled, one after another, in building
number 9, near Nirmal Nagar police station in Khar (East). The burglars walked
away with whatever they could find, including a TV set

the charges of murder of 18-year-old Anamtha Ahmed alias Saniya, an event
manager.



According to police, on the intervening night of 10/11th April at around 1:00
am one female dead body was found near VIF College on Gandipet Road. The
deceased was later identified as Sania, a resident of Masab Tank.

On enquiry police learned that Saniya stopped education in the middle of
intermediate. Since two years she has been working in a company by name Mosaic
Events and Promotions run by one Sarosh @ Zeeshan of Bandlaguda and Husna Khan
of Mehdipatnam was one of the director. The main function of the company was
to arrange boys and girls if any event is organized by any agency/company in
order to serve the food. The deceased was one of the employees of the company
and developed relation with Zeeshan, who already had intimacy with Husna Khan.
The said Husna Khan was married and having three children. Her husband is
staying in Saudi Arabia.



When Saniya developed close intimacy with Zeeshan, Husna Khan developed
jealousy and bore grudge against Saniya and decided to eliminate her 10 days
back. She engaged two persons, Malik and Rahan of Ziaguda for the murder.



On April 10 in the evening at about 7 PM, Husna Khan, Mallik and Rahan went to
deceased residence in Tata Gold vehicle belonging to Rahan's father. They
picked up Saniya in the presence of her mother informing that they were going
to attend an event on business deal. In this connection they filled fuel at
Mehdipatnam petrol pump and also purchased petrol in a bottle and then they
went to Mandara Hotel and had dinner.



From there, they went to the outskirts of Tolkatta village of Moinabad mandal
and identified no man zone and smothered Saniya to death using a cloth. The
accused brought the deceased to Gandipet and tried to burn the body by pouring
petrol taken in the bottle. In the mean time, police patrolling party reached
the scene and put off flames. By that time the accused left scene of offence
in the vehicle.



According to police, Husna Khan, killed the deceased by smothering with cloth,
while Mallik and Rahan caught hold of deceased legs and head and assisted in
killing her. Police also seized the vehicle used for commission of offence.



All the three accused have been arrested and they have confessed of committing
the murder, police said.

Crime Patrol: 'Woman planned husband's murder with lover's help (Episode 337 on 7th Feb 2014)

The Police arrested the wife of builder Jagdish Verma, whose body was found in the Bhatsa river in Shahpur last week, on Wednesday. According to the police, Sonal Verma (36) along with her paramour killed Jagdish so that they could live together.



Jagdish (38), a resident of the Vartak Nagar area in Thane, was reported missing Thursday last week. His brother-in-law had registered a missing person's complaint with the Vartak Nagar police, saying that he did not return from his morning walk. On Saturday, his body was found in Shahpur. Following this, the Shahpur police registered a murder complaint.

Meanwhile, the Vartak Nagar police had recorded Sonal's statement and also made inquiries with Jagdish's relatives and friends. During the investigation, police received a tip-off that Sonal was involved in Jagdish's disappearance.



"After receiving the tip-off, we worked on it and detained Sonal for questioning. After further questioning, she broke down and confessed to have been involved in the murder along with three others," said an officer with the Vartak Nagar police.



Deputy Commissioner of Police Balasaheb Patil, Zone V, Thane added that the motive behind the murder was to eliminate Jagdish so that Sonal could live with her paramour. "Sonal was in a relationship with one Santosh Singh (37) since 1997. In 2002, she had to marry Jagdish. Jagdish knew about her affair with Santosh and would constantly taunt her about it, which led to bitter fights between the couple. Sonal finally told Santosh that she was not able to tolerate the mental torture anymore, and he suggested that she comes and live with him. The duo then decided to kill Verma," said Patil.



In the early hours Thursday last week, Santosh with two of his friends, went to Verma's residence and Sonal let them in. The four then overpowered Verma and stabbed him in the head with a dagger repeatedly. They stuffed his body in a jute sack and loaded it in his car. The four then drove the car to Shahpur, where they tied an iron rod weighing over 100 kilograms and threw it into the Bhatsa river, where locals spotted the body two days later.



Sonal, Santosh and one of their two accomplices, identified as Mahesh Badkamkar (35) were arrested after Sonal's confession. They have been charged with murder, attempting to destroy evidence and criminal conspiracy under the IPC. They will be produced in court on Thursday, police said.

Crime Branch officials on Friday arrested three persons, including a woman, in
connection with the murder of the mother of an angadia firm owner. The woman
was allegedly murdered by the parents of her daughter-in-law on her
(daughter-in-law’s) instigation. Cops arrested 64-year-old Somabhai Patel,
61-year old Aruna Patel, both residents of Krishna Estate Flats and 60- year
old Devendra Hetkar.


The flat belongs to Hetkar and was let out to Somabhai. Hetkar lives in the
same locality. On July 13, Kamla, mother of Narendra alias Raju Patel who
lives at Shahi Kutir in Shahibaug, went missing from her home. On July 23, her
body was found near D Cabin railway level crossing in Kaligam. Sector I JCP J
K Bhatt and Sector II JCP Manoj Shashidharan told media persons that the
operation to nab the culprits was conducted jointly by Crime Branch and
Shahibaug police.



Inspector B M Desai and sub-inspector J N Zala got a tipoff and intercepted
the three of them near Hirawadi Char-rasta, Memco while they were travelling
in a car.” “It is suspected that Dipali, Kamla’s daughter-in-law, got her
murdered. Dipali believed that Kamla had wealth running into crores but she
never gave money even for routine household expenses. She presented the
situation before her parents and also told them that Kamla dominated and
harassed her,” said a police source. Dipali’s parents were convinced of her
story and hatched a conspiracy to kill Kamla. They were assisted in this by
Hetkar, the source said. “As per the plan, Dipali took Kamla to Elite Flats in
Shahibaug. There her parents took control of her and brought her to their
residence in an Alto. Then Somabhai and Hetkar gagged and choked her to
death,” added the police source.

Daughter-in-law planned Kamla Patel's murder - City-Ahmedabad >

Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on Friday claimed to have solved the
high-profile Kamla Patel murder case.



On July 23, cops had recovered the decomposed body of Kamla Patel, 55, who
used to live with her son Raju and daughter-in-law Dipali in Shahikutir
bungalow in Shahibaug.



DCB revealed that Dipali master-minded the murder of her mother-in-law and
took help of her parents, who killed Patel at her house in Naroda on July 13
and threw her body near D-cabin in Sabarmati area.

The police have also arrested Dipali's father, Soma Patel, 64, mother Aruna
Patel, 61, and their tenant Devendra Hetkar. Investigations revealed that
Dipali had asked her parents to get rid of Patel. As Dipali is still in
hospital, she has not been arrested.



According to DCB, Dipali's parents admitted that their daughter was not happy
with Patel and alleged that Patel was a nagging mother-in-law and did not give
freedom to Dipali to run the household. Cops have also recovered the ornaments
and the Alto car as evidences.



On July 13, Raju had filed a missing report with the Shahibaug police claiming
that his mother had gone to a tailor shop in the afternoon and didn't return
home. Since Patel, a widow, was owner of a well-known angadia firm, cops
suspected property dispute behind her disappearance.



However, things became murkier when her body was found 10 days later. It was
suspected that some family member, particularly Dipali, was involved in the
murder. When police started questioning her she claimed innocence and alleged
police atrocities. Later she consumed poison. Since then Dipali hasn't
recovered and is still undergoing treatment in hospital.



Police said that Dipali hatched a plan to kill Patel. On July 13, Dipali
convinced Patel to meet her parents to see some embroidery designs created by
her mother. In the afternoon, Dipali dropped Patel at a nearby road, where her
parents came in Hetkar's car. There they picked up Patel and went to their
house in Krushnanagar in Naroda.



Before committing the crime, Dipali's parents went to Swaminarayan temple. In
the house Hetkar and Somabhai strangulated Patel to death and dumped her body
in jute bags. At night they took her body to D-Cabin and threw it in a water
filed pit.



When cops failed to recover the body, Dipali realised the need to draw
attention of the police. She did so in a bid to speed up the process of
becoming the legal successor of Patel's property. Thus, Hetkar sent a
handwritten anonymous letter to Shahibaug police giving details of the
location where the body had been dumped.
