Crime Patrol: Wife, daughter arrested for man's murder (Episode 475, 476 on 27th, 28th feb 2015)

PART 1

PART 2

The Inside Story
The police have arrested the wife and daughter of a farmer of Mazara Dingrian village for hiring contract killers to get him eliminated.

Sukhdev Singh, who was in his mid-forties, was killed at the Saila Khurd grain market on October 5 allegedly by six unidentified persons.

The mother-daughter duo told the police that Sukhdev behaved badly with them and objected to their using social networking site Facebook.

Deceased's wife Amanpreet Kaur (40) and daughter Jaspreet Kaur (17) were produced in a local court on Friday.

The court sent the victim’s wife to one-day police remand and the girl to judicial custody.

CIA in-charge inspector Onkar Singh said the two could not stand Sukhdev's eccentric behaviour and planned to get him killed.

"They conspired with Jaspreet's UK-based Facebook friend Gurpreet Singh to murder Sukhdev. Gurpreet, in turn, took the help of his friend Manpreet, also a UK resident, to get the job done. They hired contract killers in Hoshiarpur who hacked Sukhdev to death,” the inspector said.

He said the police had tracked transfer of rs10,000 to the killers but it is not yet clear how much more was to be paid. "We have identified the killers and they will be arrested soon," he said.

Sources revealed that the police got to the bottom of the issue when they tumbled upon a mobile phone of the deceased's teenager daughter. The deceased's wife had filed a police complaint against him about a year ago.

"It raised suspicion that she could be behind the incident. When we questioned her, she spilled the beans and confessed to her involvement,” said the CIA in-charge.

Crime Patrol: Ludhiana acid attack victim succumbs to injuries at National Burns Centre in Mumbai (Episode 473, 474 on 21st, 22nd Feb 2015)

PART 1

PART 2

The Inside Story

LUDHIANA: Exactly twenty days after she received severe injuries due to an acid attack while she was getting ready at a beauty parlour in Sarabha Nagar in Ludhiana, the 22-year-old from Barnala breathed her last at around 9am on Friday morning.

Breaking the news to The Times of India first from National Burns Centre in Mumbai by phone, Devinder Kaur, the shocked mother of the acid attack victim, said, "My daughter has finally given up her battle for life and she died a few minutes ago at around 9am. She was in severe pain for the last few days. The last times she talked to us, was about six days ago and at that time she told us that her pain was increasing by the day. Even at that time she did ask for the groom, who didn't call even once after she suffered the acid attack due to the deeds of his family."

The family members said that they had been awaiting compensation and they received Rs 2 lakh only on Thursday.

"We didn't get compensation all these days and it was only yesterday that we got Rs 2 lakh. We were desperately in need of the money for her treatment but the government gave us the money late," said the victim's elder brother. "We will be probably flying back her dead body back to our native town this evening as ACP crime Gurbans Singh Bains is coming to Mumbai and will be arranging for the same."

The doctors treating the acid attack victim had already suggested that the chance of survival of the girl was only 50%.

Dr Sunil Manohar Keswani, a plastic surgeon at National Burns Centre Navi Mumbai, who was treating the acid attack victim, had told TOI on Thursday evening that, "For the last five days, she has suffering from early sepsis and all her organs are malfunctioning. During my more than two decades of practice, I haven't seen a patient of acid attack whose wounds are this deep. She has the most extensive acid burns. We wanted to carry out more surgeries on her but her health did not allow us to do so. Though she is stable, her condition is critical as well. As of now there are 50-50 chances of her survival and she has been on ventilator for the last four days."

The 22-year-old bride was attacked by goons hired by the ex wife of her to-be brother-in-law while she was getting ready for her wedding at a salon in Sarabha Nagar on the morning of December 7. She was shifted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) immediately after the incident where she underwent treatment for few days before being shifted by air to National Burns Centre in Navi Mumbai by Ludhiana Police on December 12.

The 25-year-old man who allegedly threw acid on her, had escaped from the spot after the incident. The police had arrested six persons, including a woman who masterminded the attack.

Amitpal Kaur, the woman, Parvinder Singh alias Vicky, the attacker, and four of their associates were arrested from Patiala, Ludhiana Police Commissioner NS Dhillon said. Addressing reporters, the commissioner had said the bride was not the intended target of the act planned by Kaur, the divorced wife of the elder brother of the groom, seeking revenge on the groom's family.

She was currently staying in Patiala where she had got married a second time with a UK-based NRI. She also has two children from her first marriage, he said. "Amitpal Kaur had entered into a deal of Rs 10 lakh with Parvinder Singh alias Vicky of Patiala to execute the acid attack. Vicky had been paid Rs 1.5 lakhs as advance in instalments," he said.

The victim, a resident of Barnala, had gone to the parlour in Sarabha Nagar in Ludhiana to get ready for her marriage when the young man barged in and threw acid on her and fled the spot. A letter recovered from the crime scene left by the attacker alleging that he had relations with the victim was false and only intended to mislead investigations, the officer said.

A car used for escaping after the attack was also recovered. Its registration number plate had been changed on the day of the crime, he said

Crime Patrol: Man kills estranged girlfriend, her sister-in-law to take revenge (Episode 472, 473 on 20th, 21st Feb 2014)

Part 1

Part 2

The Inside Story
The accused suspected that his girlfriend was avoiding him and getting influenced by her husband's sister; he murdered the duo in a hotel at Panvel

A 32-year-old man from Khopoli has been arrested for murdering his girlfriend and her sister-in-law in an abandoned hotel at Panvel as he suspected that his girlfriend was getting influenced by her sister-in-law and was avoiding him.

Police nabbed the accused, identified as Chandrakant Gaikwad, after the deceased’s husband filed a missing person’s complaint for his wife, son and sister.

Panvel murder, man murders girlfriend and her sister-in-law

On September 30, a man informed the New Panvel police about the bodies of two women and a little boy lying in Golden Hotel in Panvel, which has been abandoned for the last 15 years. Cops reached the spot to find the two women dead, but the two-year-old boy was unharmed.

The next day, a man approached Kharghar police station to file a missing person’s complaint for his wife, son and sister. As the police station had been informed about the dead bodies, they took the man, Anil Thakur, to New Panvel station. Anil identified them as his wife, Darshana Anil Thakur (30) and sister Bharati Thakur (24).

He told the police that the duo had left home with his son on September 30 around 1 pm, saying they were going to attend some programme, but did not return.

During interrogation, Anil confessed that his wife had met a man, Chandrakant Gaikwad, a year ago in a hospital where her brother was undergoing treatment. Gaikwad would often call Darshana, and Anil suspected that they were having an affair. She would also delete her call information and messages from her phone to hide it from her husband.

“When Anil told us about Gaikwad, we started searching for him. We found him at a temple in Khopoli. He had been staying there after his family had kicked him out. Gaikwad confessed killing the two women. He said that he and Darshana had been seeing each other and they used to meet at the hotel every Tuesday at 1 pm, and her sister-in-law Bharati used to accompany her,” said Milind Hiwale, police inspector from New Panvel station.

“Gaikwad said that Bharati had a boyfriend and after some time, he found out that she was also getting close to another man. He said that from the last one and a half months, he started suspecting that Darshana was avoiding him and her behaviour had started to change, which he felt was because of her sister-in-law’s influence. He therefore decided to kill both of them,” Hiwale added. Gaikwad was arrested under section 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code.

According to a report published in TOI, 27-year-old Moumita Das and 24-year-old Avijit Paul had gone on vacations to Dehradun on Tuesday, October 21, by train.

Vacations took a tragic turn

On Friday, October 24, the couple had hired a cab driver Raju to take them for sight seeing at Chakrata and Tiger Top Hill.

Raju was accompanied by three of his accomplices, who reportedly told the couple that they would return on their own from Chakrata after watching a 'nautanki'.

While returning from Chakrata, the trio along with Raju asked the couple to step out of the car at Lakhamandal.

Then, they robbed the couple and in a cold-blooded murder, they threw them off the steep cliff.

The family of both, Moumita and Avijit were running from pillar-to-post in a hope to find any trace of their missing children.

Dehradun: Taxi driver, aides rape, murder tourist

A 27-year-old Delhi woman, who along with her friend was robbed and killed by a cab driver and his accomplices in Uttarakhand during the Diwali holidays, was raped, police said Tuesday.

The couple, who lived in Lado Saria in south Delhi, had left for the neighbouring hill state on October 21 and went missing two days later. It was on Monday that the police informed the families that the couple were robbed and killed near the state capital Dehradun. The police suspect the couple were killed on Diwali night on October 23.

Four men — cab driver Raju Das, Bablu, Guddu and Kundan — had been arrested, senior Uttarakhand police officer Swapan Kishore Singh said. He is part of one of the three teams investigating the sensational crime.

“One of them has confessed that he raped the girl, but we are still interrogating if the others were also involved,” Uttarkashi superintendent of police Jagatram Joshi told HT. A source identified the man as Bablu.

The body of the woman, a teacher with a Gurgaon school, is yet to be found. “We are trying to find the girl’s body. This will help establish if she was raped or not,” Joshi said. The body of her 24-year-old friend, a painter from Kolkata, was found in Purola in Uttarkashi district that abuts Dehradun. The couple, said the police, were returning to Dehradun from the popular Tiger Falls in a taxi when three men, who claimed to be friends of Das, joined them. After going some distance, the men asked the couple to step out. They robbed them, raped the woman and then killed them, Joshi said.

Das was arrested Sunday after their team went to Uttarakhand and presented the evidence that the woman’s phone was being used by him, a south Delhi officer told HT on condition of anonymity. “His interrogation led to the arrest of other three,” the officer said.

The men allegedly told the police that they strangled the couple and threw the woman’s body in the Yamuna river from a bridge. They were about to dump the man’s body when an approaching vehicle forced them to abandon the plan. They pushed the body from a nearby cliff, the Delhi officer said.

The murders could have been solved earlier had the Uttarakhand Police taken seriously the call details of the woman’s friend, the officer said. The call log showed the last person the man spoke to was Raju, he said.

Crime Patrol: Wife, paramour held as skeleton 'solves' riddle (Episode 465, 466 on 31st Jan, 1st Feb 2015)

Part 1

Part 2

The Inside Story
JAIPUR: Criminals, it is believed, commit one major goof-up and overconfidence usually gets them trapped. And it was no exception in the case in which Harmara police had found a skeleton near Sewapura village on November 2. The police arrested three persons on Tuesday, including a customs superintendent posted at Jaipur, a contract killer and the wife of deceased.

On November 2, police had found a skeleton and suspected it to be that of a constable of customs department.

The deceased was identified as Mahendra Meena (50) on the basis of an identity card which was also recovered from the spot.

While the policemen were planning to conduct a DNA test, they stumbled upon some alarming clues which helped them crack the case.

Even senior police officers were stunned to see how the drama unfolded. The real life thrill and suspense was no less than a masala-packed Hindi flick.

"The deceased's wife Santosh (45) had lodged a missing complaint of her husband on May 9, the day when he "went missing". However, she had mentioned a mobile number which belonged to Kailash Meena (45) who is a customs superintendent posted in Jaipur. That confused us and also became a major suspicion," said Kailash Bishnoi, deputy commissioner of police (West) while talking to TOI on Tuesday. But this was sufficient to nab Kailash Meena. Bishnoi said, "Relatives told us that Mahendra's son-in-law Kailash was having an illicit relation with the deceased's (Mahendra's) wife. And this had strained the relationship between Mahendra and his wife. The kith and kin also said that they had seen Mahendra with Kailash last on May 9. Thus, Kailash was taken into custody and was thorougly interrogated," Bishnoi said.

Kailash's version was not only stunning, it had all the ingredients of a pot-boiler. "He said on May 9, he took Mahendra to see a plot of land at Suncity on the Sikar road. He had also brought a contact killer Ali Mohammed (55) and also paid him Rs 5 lakh. Both strangulated Mahendra and dumped the body at an isolated place near Sewapura in Harmara police station area," Bishnoi added.

"After a few months, when the threesome, including Kailash Meena, Ali Mohammed and Santosh thought that they were not in the suspect list and could lead a normal life. However, their over confidence did them in. Santosh told Kailash that she needed to get Mahendra's widow pension after her husband's death, but had no proof of his death. Mahendra till then was reportedly missing," Bishnoi added.

"In a bid to prove Mahendra's death, Kailash and Ali went to the spot and dug out the decomposed body and placed an identity card in the pocket to prove the identity and left the mortal remains scattered. On November 2, when we found the skeleton, we were surprised to see that body completely decomposed but the identity card was intact. This led us to suspect their narrated version," he added. This new twist, added misery for the trio. The police arrested all the three, including Kailash Meena, Santosh and Ali Mohammed. "Ali and Kailash are booked for murder while the Santosh has been arrested on charges of criminal conspiracy," Bishnoi added.

A woman along with her brother-in- law and another man was arrested today for allegedly killing her husband, a constable with the customs department whose skeleton was recently found in a sack in a village near here.

Skeletal remains of Mahendra Kumar Meena, 47, was found in a sack on an isolated plot of land in Sewapur Village near here on November 2.

"Mahendra's wife Santosh was having an illicit relationship with her brother-in-law Kailash Meena, a superintendent in customs department. When Mahendra got to know, he raised objections following which Santosh and Kailash decided to kill him," DCP West Kailash Chand Vishnoi said.

"The duo hired Ali Mohammad of Uttar Pradesh for Rs five lakh to eliminate him. Under a conspiracy, Kailash took Mahendra to an isolated area where Ali, who was waiting at the spot, strangulated him. They dumped the body there. Few days back, Kailash along with Ali collected the skeletal remains and threw them in an isolated area," he said.

The officer said activities of Kailash were found suspicious during investigations and he was detained.

"During interrogation he confessed to the crime. All the accused have been arrested," he said.
